As an Independent Living Skills Coach, you will be supporting the delivery of our Lifewise Programme in our Barnsley (S70 – Town Centre) service, in our brand new ‘Annie’s Annexe’, dedicated to the memory of one of our Young People. Lifewise prepares Young People by developing their basic living skills, with short courses focused on managing money, cooking, cleaning, and fire safety. These are integral skills that will support Young People throughout their lives.
Days required: Mon AM, Mon PM, Tues AM, Tues PM, Weds AM, Weds PM, Thur AM, Thur PM, Fri AM, Fri PM
How many volunteers are needed: 1
Recruitment process: DBS Enhanced with Barring Checks, Interview, Two References, Training
Skills and qualifications:
1. Ability to communicate confidently and clearly with young people, other volunteers, and staff
2. Ability to remain calm when involved with challenging individuals and situations
3. Understanding of the issues – practical and emotional – facing young people
4. Understanding of the importance of teamwork and a strong commitment to being part of a team
5. Ability to develop a rapport with young people
6. Good communication skills, written and oral – good telephone manner
7. Able to use Microsoft Office
8. A commitment to demonstrating Centrepoint’s values
9. A commitment to complete the necessary volunteer training sessions
DESIRABLE:
1. Understanding of mental health and resilience to cope with a range of individualised coping mechanisms and outbursts
2. Knowledge of the local area related to the service
3. Skills and confidence with supporting independent living skills, e.g., managing money, shopping on a budget, cooking
