We are looking to recruit Band 6 Sister/Charge Nurses for the Neonatal Unit at Jessop Wing, Sheffield.
The post holders will provide initial 'golden hour' care to babies and families promoting delayed cord clamping, delivery room cuddles, and EBM at birth to give babies the best start. You will then ensure that families are fully involved in their babies' ongoing care which may include high-level respiratory support and surgery. You will be using the Badger EPR system as we continue our paperless journey.
We will support you to gain valuable nursing experience at birth for the most premature babies and complete Neonatal Life Support if needed and up-to-date level 3 practices. You may be seconded from your current Band 6 role for 6-12 months with your manager's agreement and will have completed the Qualified in Specialty programme and consolidated this training. Alternatively, you will be looking to continue your neonatal career with progression to be a Band 6 Neonatal nurse, being a room leader and providing senior support either in ITU, HDU, or as a Special Care Co-ordinator overseeing discharges into the community.
We welcome staff working 30-37.5 hours per week. 12-hour shifts, days, nights, weekends to cover our service as we support staff on their Early Career Neonatal Nurse Pathway.
Main duties of the job
* To undertake and support in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of specific programmes of patient care in the hospital and community setting.
* Exercise judgement in assessing wide-ranging patient problems and promote options for optimum patient care in the community setting.
* To maintain effective communication with all patients, carers, and members of the Healthcare team.
* To act sensitively, confidentially, and with empathy in demonstrating understanding of wide-ranging physical and emotional needs.
* Work unsupervised, in the intensive care, High dependency, and special care environment within Trust Guidelines, Policies and Procedures and the NMC codes of conduct, seeking advice on non-routine matters from line managers or Duty Matron.

This vacancy is advertised on a fixed-term contract basis for the maximum period of 12 months. Where there is potential, the secondment/fixed-term contract may finish early, or in the first instance, the secondment/fixed-term contract may be extended due to the internal/external secondment of the substantive post holder. The fixed-term contract status of the post holder will be reviewed in accordance with the Trust's legal obligations regarding fixed-term contracts and secondments in relation to the substantive post holder.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Registered nurse (valid with NMC)
* Advanced Diploma Nursing Studies or equivalent qualification
* Qualified in Neonatal Specialty
* To have completed the national PEAP programme for practice supervisors or equivalent teaching and assessing qualification for those with ENB998.
* RSCN/child branch
* R23 or equivalent (enhancing neonatal practice) held or working towards first-level degree
Further Training
* Newborn Life Support
Experience
* Evidence of management and leadership qualities
* Significant experience in neonatal Intensive care at staff nurse level post neonatal qualification
* For external secondment post, applicant should be currently a Band 6 Senior staff nurse/Charge nurse/Sister
* Effective communicator, leadership skills, ability to participate in education of others assertiveness, role model
