Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (Aintree) are looking to recruit a Practice Educator Facilitator (PEF). The successful candidate will aim to be an expert Clinical Practitioner responsible for providing a high level of education, training and clinical support to the nursing workforce.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be responsible for developing and managing an educational service which will aim to deliver up to date evidence-based practice, focusing on individual staff need, to support in the delivery of a high standard of care. This includes practical skills and knowledge and theory which underpin practice.
Job responsibilities
1. Clinical Practice
* To be an expert clinical practitioner - with the ability to demonstrate skill in the provision of care for patients with Ventilation/Respiratory care needs, displaying clinical competence including but not limited to Non-invasive ventilation (NIV) and Tracheostomy care/management.
* Participate in the management of patient care by providing hands on 1:1 teaching sessions at the patients bedside, to enable junior/less experienced staff to develop their skills.
* Be responsible for own personal learning and practice development, ensuring NMC proficiencies are maintained and up to date practice is being delivered in accordance with Trust guidelines and government initiatives.
* Participate in clinical audit and research to ensure current practice is effective and enables the Ventilation Inpatient Centre to deliver the highest standard of efficient and effective care.
* Be visible on the unit and able to make themselves readily available to assist and support staff members with any learning/development issues.
* To ensure that the principles that guide staff development reflect the trust commitment to quality, safety and patient experience, and that these are embedded into clinical practice.
2. Education and Professional Development
* Promote an effective environment conducive to learning and development, encouraging clinical supervision and reflective practice.
* Assist and support newly qualified/ International recruits with the transition into the clinical environment.
* Develop training and action plans for underperforming staff members.
* Liaise with other education resource initiatives e.g. Simulation suite and external providers to develop and maintain regular educational sessions.
* Assist the clinical team in producing Respiratory/Ventilation specific competencies.
* Work collaboratively with the Nursing team to identify areas of educational need, prioritise these areas in the development of an educational programme implementing best practice.
* Assist in the completion of a training needs analysis to help staff identify gaps in knowledge and skill.
* Implement a comprehensive development programme for new starters/preceptors to give structure to learning and development within the clinical area.
* Support Nurse Managers with ensuring mandatory training and medical device competencies are completed.
* To ensure clinical staff within the Ventilation Inpatient Centre/ Respiratory meet CQC/LQA and peer review training requirements.
* Benchmark nursing practice to ensure all staff members are following the Trust’s policies and procedures to deliver a high standard of care.
* Develop a resource bank/library holding Ventilation/Respiratory specific evidence-based practice.
* Maintain accurate up to date records of training, highlighting dates of completion and re-assessments.
3. Management and Leadership
* Act as a professional role model who leads by example in regard to attitudes, conduct and appearance.
* Develop inter-professional collaboration, and work in partnership with other departments/teams.
* Provide clinical and professional advice and support to ward-based teams as required.
* Maintain appropriate documentation in accordance with agreed procedures.
* Comply with the requirements of the Health and Safety regulations to provide a safe environment for the patients, their families and members of the staff.
* Have an in-depth knowledge of relevant national and local health policy issues and their implications to the service.
* Providing comprehensive and constructive feedback / criticism where required, and escalating concerns to the ward manager/matron as required.
* Offer support and leadership to ward/ department managers in all aspects of education and capability and performance.
* Assist in the writing of policies, procedures and guidelines in relation to education.
* To operate within the agreed financial targets and work to improve financial management.
* Develop and maintain highly effective communication networks with key stakeholders to support and ensure development of professional behaviours and a range of knowledge and skills for all staff.
* To attend forums and meetings as required.
* Maintains professional registration and practice through CPD.
* Demonstrates the ability to allocate, coordinate, monitor and assess own workload.
* Develop partnership working with the HEIs, contributing to the education of students.

Qualifications
Essential
* 1st level degree or equivalent
* Professional qualification, to a minimum of degree level, with up to date professional registration or equivalent
* Masters degree or equivalent

* Extensive experience of teaching, supervising and assessing healthcare students in the practice setting
* Demonstrable broad range of previous post qualifying clinical experience
* Experience of having worked across professional and organizational boundaries
* Practical experience of facilitating change
* Experience of staff management/staff supervision
* Experience of developing and implementing new systems and procedures
