Job Overview
To work as part of the Vascular Access & IV therapy Services (IVAS) Team Vascular Access Service on the Frimley site to help facilitate the daily running of the vascular access service.
Working pattern will be Monday to Friday 8am until 4pm.
Main Duties of the Job
To Support and work in conjunction with IVAS team in the delivery of the vascular access service, working under the vascular access clinical nurse specialists, on the Frimley site.
The aim of this post is to support the vascular access team in managing the difficult IV access patients on the wards who require ultrasound guided cannulation, venepuncture and midline insertion.
The post holder will work independently with the support of the registered team, delivering a reactive difficult IV access service, supporting early hospital discharge and reducing complications associated with central venous catheters and blood stream infections. The post holder will work with EPIC to schedule outpatient lists and book, admit and discharge patients into the IVAS service. They will also document the procedures they undertake in EPIC on the LDA as part of their role.
The post holder will be given training in the use of ultrasound guided cannulation and venepuncture and will be expected to become an expert in this procedure.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
1. Work within the vascular access team as the vascular access technician who can be called upon to any clinical area of the hospital to use ultrasound to perform difficult venepuncture, place a peripheral cannula or midline.
2. Support the IVAS infusion unit in gaining vascular access for difficult IV access patients who require IVAS infusions and venipuncture.
3. The post holder will be a champion of vessel health and preservation, be an expert in placing peripheral vascular access devices and recognizing basic complications.
