Description Wood Digital Consulting (DC) are looking for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to support the team in Northampton. The Mechanical Design Engineer will provide cost effective, accurate and professional mechanical engineering activities for special purpose machinery and consultancy. This is a hybrid role that will require the Engineer to be in the Northampton office a couple times a week, mobility and travel to customer sites and face to face meetings with colleagues will be expected as required, and the ability to work as a team member in this remote environment. Responsibilities Responsibilities to include but not limited to completing the following design engineering tasks: Expert level in the use of 3D CAD - Solid Works To be part of a multi-disciplined team providing innovative concepts and designs to provide automations solutions to customers in various industries including but not limited to Automotive, Pharmaceutical, Food & Beverage, Logistics, Nuclear To maintain non-conformance in mechanical design to the minimum possible level Bring to Wood design department cost effective machine design techniques and standards gained from previous experience Have good level of understanding of the Machinery Directive, Risk Assessments and Regulatory marking of machinery Following drawing control and standards with emphasis on a standard parts and design methodology across the mechanical engineering function Detail design and geometric tolerancing of all component drawings Conduct FMEA and Risk Assessments for internal and external analysis Generate FDS, DDS documentation as required To generate innovative low risk concepts for sales inquiries utilising 3D CAD techniques and system descriptions to the highest level and assist in the selling process Qualifications Educated to HNC / Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent extensive post graduate experience working in a machinery design environment Extensive Solid Works experience Experience of production of assembly drawings and build packs for workshop build Good mechanical materials knowledge Be able to design to high precision with tight tolerancing Expert knowledge of geometric tolerancing and application of same to build packs and machining drawings High level of knowledge in the design of special purpose machinery from basic conveying equipment and complex precision tooling Design to cost as agreed and detailed in the project overview costings Generate specifications for bought out parts Value analysis and value engineering as an ongoing principle of the design process Generation of technical manuals and recommending spare parts as required LI-Hybrid
