Intermediate Quantity Surveyor – Birmingham – Permanent – circa £50,000 plus benefits
An opportunity has arisen to join an industry leader in the UK’s De-Carbonisation and Building Services sector as an Intermediate Quantity Surveyor, within their Birmingham office.
This permanent role will commence from January 2025, although it is also open to candidates who may need to give notice to their current employer and start a little later.
Our client offers turnkey design, build, and operational solutions for commercial energy centres and large-scale district heating plant schemes. They are also now one of the leading manufacturers in the delivery of De-Carbonisation projects.
Typical contracts will see our client act as Main Contractor, assuming control of all elements including civils, construction, building services, fabric and solar. These typically range from £5m-£15m in value.
Core Responsibilities
1. Responsible for securing the successful financial delivery of projects by controlling costs, progressing monthly valuations, and managing variations and change orders.
2. Liaising with contracts, estimating and pre-construction teams to obtain full understanding of each project scope.
3. Review and set out project package allowances prior to handover for tendering of works by operations team.
4. Review & collate subcontractor package awards.
5. Engage Sub-contractors, handle negotiations, prepare sub-contract documents.
6. Review and interrogate new and existing contracts, orders, and suppliers to ensure associated terms and conditions are relevant and acceptable.
7. Track & maintain monthly job performance reporting and feedback the same to Lead QS.
8. Prepare on-time monthly valuations following site measurements and work-in-progress reviews and follow up to make sure that payments are received on time as per the agreed contract conditions.
9. Vette and process monthly subcontractor payments.
10. Attend monthly commercial meetings to provide update on any ongoing contract specific negotiations and overall job performance.
11. Assist in the commercial activities of the business and provide support/advice in this regard to the Projects Managers as required.
12. Attend sites as required (England primarily, but may extend to Wales, Scotland or Ireland – dependant on workload and project awards).
Essential Criteria
1. Third level qualification in a Surveying or Cost Engineering discipline or can demonstrate an equivalent level of experience.
2. Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a similar Commercial role.
3. Commercially astute and ambitious.
4. Contractual knowledge of both JCT and NEC Forms of Contract.
5. High standard of organisational and time management skills.
6. High level of IT literacy, especially in Microsoft Packages (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
7. Excellent written and verbal communication & negotiation skills.
8. Excellent attention to detail.
9. Excellent client engagement skills.
10. Current UK Driving License.
Remuneration
This position offers a competitive salary and is largely dependent on experience so candidate led, however it is expected that basic salary range would be between £45,000 - £55,000 per year with additional company benefits.
