The Microbiology department is seeking an enthusiastic, HCPC-registered Biomedical Scientist to join our team.
You will be responsible for the diagnosis of infectious diseases by the application of microbiological, serological and molecular technology using microscopy, culture, rapid identification techniques and antigen/antibody-complex and nucleic acid detection methods.
Main duties of the job
Diagnostic work includes examination of urine, faeces, sputum, cerebrospinal fluid, swabs of infected sites, pus, tissue, aspirated and drained fluids, and blood/serum. Specimens for the screening of sexually transmitted infections are also investigated.
Good organisational and communication skills will be required along with up-to-date knowledge of microbiology. You should have enthusiasm and have the ability to work on your own or as part of a team. You are required to train more junior members of the team and play a supportive role to the Senior BMS. You will be responsible for maintaining a high standard of professional expertise and quality.
Qualifications
Essential
1. Registration with the Health Professions Council as a Biomedical Scientist.
2. Appropriate BSc degree (as recognised by the IBMS)
3. Experience in NHS diagnostic laboratory
Desirable
1. Specialist Diploma in Microbiology/Virology or equivalent.

1. Evidence of continued professional development and maintenance of up to date knowledge of new technologies and methodologies.
Desirable
1. Post registration experience in Microbiology
