About the Company - Recra are working in partnership with a high end designer and installer of luxury installation projects across London, they are looking for an experienced quantity surveyor to join them on a full time permanent basis.
About the Role - As a QS, you will support the Projects Team with a variety of responsibilities to ensure that projects are managed with a premium service level, smoothly and efficiently for the benefit of both the customer and the business with controlling the finances of each project. The Projects Department is fast paced with many projects running at various different stages of progress, it is important that you are able to prioritise and organise your workload efficiently. The ability to work in a team is very important, maintaining close relationships with the Projects Managers and working closely on the projects to ensure that the project finances are kept up to date. The Project QS is responsible to manage the submission of variations and receipt of Site Instructions. Required to recognise business opportunities to increase margins wherever possible and ensure that applications are kept up to date and accurately assessed against site progress. The business uses an internal ERP system for which training will be provided. However, it is important that you are computer literate and are confident in using Outlook, PowerPoint, Word and Excel. A suitable candidate would be confident in verbal and written forms of communication and able to communicate to people both internally and externally in a clear and professional manner.
Responsibilities
* Support the Project Managers in controlling the finances of live projects and recognize opportunities for commercial advantage
* Preparation and submission of variations and breakdowns and provide detailed rate build ups where necessary
* Identify and cost up any additional works outside of the project scope including additional labour resource/ additional extras and project delays
* Monthly update of Variations Schedules and Variation Summary per project
* Monthly budget reconciliations with Procurement Manager and Projects Director including:
* Monthly meeting with Procurement Manager to ensure instructed variations and deductions are included within the budget
* Monthly meeting with Project Managers to ensure installation cost-to-complete is updated and PM’s are conscious of the commercial status of every project.
* Attending Variation / Final Account Meetings with PM’s if necessary
* Work with Contractor QS to obtain agreement to costs throughout the project, ensuring SI’s are received and agreed monthly
* Assisting MD / PM’s in preparing information for meetings.
* Working with the estimating team and reviewing final quote submissions prior to winning work and reviewing any legal contracts which come with the tender opportunity
* Reviewing tender documents and contract documents and providing key information to the PM’s
* Attend Pre-start meetings
* Attend monthly financial WIP meetings
* Submit applications in line with valuation dates
* Attend site at regular intervals to value work complete
* Monitor contract programme verses site progress and supporting PM’s with advising when extension of time is required and associated documentation
* Submit final accounts on completion of project ensuring all applicable additional works have been included and costed
* Attend final account meetings as necessary and agree account; produce final statement as required
* Awareness of Health, Safety and Environmental requirements
* Review processes, procedures and documentation, updating when required.
* To support the Project Director as required
* Other administrative duties
Qualifications - Relevant Degree and /or professional qualification
Required Skills
* Experience ideally in carpentry, joinery or shop fitting either from a trade background or in your current Quantity Surveying position
* Excellent communication both verbal and written skills
* Excellent numerical skills
* Strong organisation and time management skills and ability to prioritise tasks
* Good IT skills, including Microsoft office suite (Word and Excel), Microsoft Dynamics AX
* Personable, presentable and articulate
* Commercial awareness
* Ability to work within deadlines and cope under pressure
* Strong interpersonal and team-working skills
