Business Insider is hiring a data engineering intern to join our data platform team to help advance our mission of providing high quality, actionable insights. The Role & Team: As a data engineering intern, you will be working alongside a talented group of data engineers to drive data quality and build new data systems to solve business challenges. You will have the opportunity to diagnose issues in data pipelines, and propose and implement solutions, both to immediate problems and to longer-term quality detection challenges. You will also create new data pipelines, from ingestion to modelling, and connect these to our business intelligence layer. Finally, you will work with the data platform team to build new features in our data activation layer and power the next generation of Business Insider’s core functionality. This role reports directly to the director of engineering for data and sits on the data platform team. This role will be hybrid with the expectation to be in the Belfast office on average two days per week. Key Responsibilities: Collaborate with the data platform team to understand our data warehousing approach and data strategy Assist in implementing logical data pipelines and improving data quality Participate in the development of new data features and systems Communicate effectively with product team and other members of the data group about initiatives and feature improvements What you’ll learn: Gain foundational knowledge of data transformations and quality assessment. Develop programming skills in Python and learn best practices in version control (e.g., Git). Understand the end-to-end data pipeline process, from ingestion to modelling. The Ideal Candidate Has: Basic programming knowledge, ideally from a Computer Science degree, coding bootcamp, or self-directed learning Demonstrable understanding of basic structured query language Excellent time management and communication skills Business Intelligence tools and basic data visualisation techniques Is curious, open to feedback, and eager to learn from experienced team members.
