This is a substantive 10PA post for a Consultant Dermatologist at the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust.
This is in response to the needs of the department in the last few years and the increasing demand on our services in the local area. Our service covers a large area encompassing both East and West Berkshire and parts of Oxfordshire and Hampshire. We are lucky to work in a very beautiful area of the country including Henley and West Berkshire.
We pride ourselves on being a very friendly department and look forward to expanding our department, services and physician workforce. It is now time to expand our consultant numbers.
The simulation date is 20/01/2025 and the interview date will be 03/02/2025.
Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will support the current delivery of the Dermatology service, including contribution to the development of these services at the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust and all associated Trust sites. Subspecialty interests of successful candidates can also be accommodated upon future discussion.
The appointee will join the existing team to provide specialist care to this growing population of patients and raise departmental profiles through teaching and education.
Job responsibilities
1. To provide, with colleagues, Dermatology services in both in-patient and out-patient settings.
2. To contribute to on-call cover 9am-5pm for the Dermatology service and support advice and queries from the ward/ ambulatory care/ emergency dept and Dermatology Registrar when requested.
3. Active participation in monthly clinical governance & academic meetings within the department.
4. Participation and involvement in meetings and other business in the Dermatology service.
5. Post holders will be expected to participate fully in the teaching of pre-clinical & clinical undergraduate medical students from Oxford University.
6. Contribution to the programmes of F1/F2, Core Trainee and Specialist Registrar teaching.
7. Contribute to medical audit and clinical governance; clinical governance meetings take place on alternate months.
8. Maintain professional development to the level set by the Royal College of Physicians, including participation in the annual appraisal system in line with the National Appraisal Scheme for Consultant Medical Staff.
Person Specification
Education and Qualification
* Full registration with the GMC/eligible for registration within 6 months of CCST in (Speciality) at interview date.
* Membership of the British Association of Dermatologists or equivalent.
* Higher degree e.g. PhD/ MD submitted/awarded.
Clinical Experience, Knowledge & Skills
* Fully trained in Dermatology.
* Previous responsibility for clinical governance and GMC Good Medical Practice.
* Ability to make decisions at consultant level.
* All aspects of general Dermatology and patient care.
Audit Management & IT
* Ability to work within clinical governance guidelines.
* Undertake audits and present data as required.
* Good IT skills, use of patient and hospital database.
* Evidence of clinical leadership role demonstrating accountability for quality of care, financial controls, and efficient management of workforce.
Research, Teaching Skill & Experience
* Track record of publications in peer-reviewed journals.
* Evidence of providing good teaching and supervision to trainees to the level of GMC accredited educational supervision level.
* Contributes to improving patients' experience.
* Ability to work in partnership to deliver a patient-centred service.
* Demonstrate an understanding and willingness to embrace user involvement.
