The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) is the UK government department responsible for safeguarding our natural environment, supporting our world-leading food and farming industry, and sustaining a thriving rural economy. Our broad remit means we play a major role in people's day-to-day life, from the food we eat, and the air we breathe, to the water we drink.
CDO
Defra is transforming the way it manages and exploits data and information with the objective of making better use of data and information to power decision-making, services and AI use. This is aligned with the cross-government Digital and Data Transformation Roadmap Mission 3 and aims to provide strategic direction and governance to develop the technology, skills and culture for better use of data and information across the Defra Group. With the exponential increase of information the role of information management is critical to ensure legal compliance and the fair and ethical use of information in evidence driven decision making and artificial intelligence. The Information Appraisal team is located within the Chief Data Office (CDO) in the Science and Analysis Group and reports to the Head of Information Management.
