Controls Engineer at Tier 1 Automotive Company
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Controls Engineer to join our dynamic team at a leading Tier 1 Automotive company. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for specifying, managing, and undertaking hardware, software, and safety installations of new equipment to ensure seamless operation and safety of our production facilities.
Role Overview:
This role involves:
* Designing and commissioning software and associated hardware on new and existing lines.
* Maintaining and updating facility standards using lessons learned from previous experience.
* Testing machine safety and related control systems.
* Ensuring KPI targets are met on newly installed and existing chassis assembly equipment.
* Managing and progressing suppliers against project timelines.
* Issuing clear reports on project status and escalating any roadblocks appropriately.
* Overseeing and planning onsite installations, managing external contractors.
* Supporting the Process Development Leader in progressing and completing project-related tasks.
* Chairing meetings, engaging, and negotiating with internal customers to form agreements.
* Guiding assembly facility suppliers in designing controls, safety, and electrical systems to ensure standards are followed.
Key Requirements:
* Excellent understanding of automation, electrical, and fluid power systems.
* Proven understanding of functional machine safety equipment and safety grading requirements.
* Ability to modify machine control elements, electrical design, and communication protocols.
* Capable of researching technology information to suit specific tasks with minimal guidance.
* Broad-based problem-solving skills.
* Mechanical comprehension, numerical computation, technical understanding, logical understanding, and eagerness to succeed.
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills to liaise with all departments and suppliers.
* Ability to manage external suppliers and contractors.
Aptitude and Experience:
* Ability to plan and manage one's own time and responsibilities with minimal supervision.
* Ability to modify automated software sequences.
* Good knowledge of designing production facilities in the aspects of controls, electrical, and safety.
* Understanding of chassis assembly processes.
* Excellent interpersonal skills to build rapport, displaying trust, integrity, diversity awareness, and good networking skills.
* Consistent analytical approach when faced with adverse situations.
* Awareness of the welfare and behavior of others during demanding work phases.
Qualifications:
Educated to a minimum of HNC level in Mechatronics. Recognized Electrical Apprenticeship.
Working Hours:
Contractual hours: 38 hours per week. Reporting to: Senior Controls Engineer
