Job overview
We are seeking to recruit a clinical psychologist with enthusiasm for, and experience of, working psychologically with people who have had a stroke. The post is a dedicated one-day a week, direct and indirect clinical position, to support the development of psychological work within the inpatient stroke ward. An ability to work independently and with self-motivation is essential.
Main duties of the job
You will be working with psychologically and neuropsychologically affected people who have experienced a recent stroke. You will work directly with patients to assess, formulate psychological needs, and offer psychological interventions as appropriate. You will also work indirectly with colleagues, offering supervision, consultation, and training in relation to the psychological aspects of stroke. You will be located in an inpatient setting and will need to have an ability to be flexible and to manage time efficiently.
Person specification
Qualifications
* Doctoral level training in clinical psychology, including models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics, and Neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies, and lifespan developmental psychology as accredited by the HCPC and British Psychological Society.
* HCPC registered practitioner psychologist.
* Additional qualification in at least one therapeutic model, evidence-based for use with this client group.
* Pre-qualification training and qualifications in research methodology, staff training, and/or other fields of applied psychology.
Experience
* Substantial post-qualification experience of specialist psychological assessment, formulation, and treatment of clients across the full range of care settings including outpatient, community, primary care, and inpatient settings.
* Demonstrate further specialist training and experience through having received a minimum of 50 hours clinical supervision of working as a clinical psychologist over a minimum of 18 months or an alternative agreed by the Associate Psychological Services Director.
* Experience of providing clinical supervision.
* Experience of the application of clinical psychology in different cultural contexts.
Knowledge and Skills
* Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, intervention, and management.
* Well-developed skills in communicating effectively, orally and in writing, complex, highly technical, and/or clinically sensitive information to clients, their family, carers, and other professional colleagues.
* Skills in providing clinical supervision and consultation to other professional and non-professional groups.
* Skills in managing the emotional impact of dealing with highly emotive and distressing situations through self-management and use of the clinical supervision process.
* Knowledge of legislation in relation to the client group and mental health.
Other
* Ability to identify and employ mechanisms of clinical governance to support and maintain clinical practice in the face of regular exposure to highly emotive behavior.
* Ability to teach and train others, using a variety of complex multimedia materials for presentations within public, professional, and academic settings.
