Job Title: Internal Controls Specialist Job Location: Basingstoke, UK Job Location Type: Hybrid Job Contract Type: Full-time Job Seniority Level: Entry level Role Overview We have an exciting opportunity for a skilled and detail-oriented individual to join our global team as a Controls Manager. In response to new regulatory requirements, it is essential for the group to focus on developing a control framework which provides assurance over the effectiveness of our financial, operational, compliance and reporting controls. In this role, you will be responsible for working with stakeholders across our business on the operational, compliance and reporting topics to identify their material controls, create and maintain controls documentation, understand and assess risks, develop assessment plans and approaches, perform second line testing and quality reviews of controls, and support the development and completion of action plans to support continual improvement. You will play a critical role in assessing the design and operating effectiveness of controls on behalf of the Board of Genus plc which forms a key part of the Group’s annual reporting requirement. You Will Work collaboratively with internal stakeholders to understand and document controls and associated risks. Ensure documentation is current and reflects process or regulatory changes. Work with internal stakeholders to evaluate control design and understand the effectiveness of controls in mitigating the identified risks to determine which controls are material. Assist in developing control recommendations. Develop test plans based on identified risks and material controls. Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure comprehensive coverage of relevant controls and availability of evidence to support controls assessment. Perform second line testing to evaluate control design and effectiveness in line with the annual plan. Analyse results, identify deficiencies, and recommend remediation actions. Monitor and track deficiencies found during testing. Work with internal stakeholders to implement corrective actions and monitor remediation activities to ensure timely resolution. Support management in preparing materials and reporting for key stakeholders, including management, the Audit and Risk Committee and regulatory bodies. Delivery of project tasks outcomes to the agreed scope, time, cost, and quality criteria. Work as part of a global team to continuously improve the Genus internal controls framework. Requirements Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with meticulous attention to detail. Ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present complex information in a clear and concise manner. Highly organised with the ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines. Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of risk assessment, internal controls, and how to assess control design and operational effectiveness. Proficient in using control testing software and tools or experience implementing new systems.
