An exciting new role has become available at TBS, Thomas Broadbent & Sons Ltd, a Huddersfield-based manufacturing company that supplies industrial centrifuges to the world. A family-owned company over 160 years old, it has a rich heritage and reputation for innovation and reliability.
The role of the BM is key to the Company’s success. The principal objective is to deliver sales of capital equipment and upgrades and make a positive contribution (net profit) to the Company. This is achieved through a market-driven and responsive business centre (BC) focused on delivering on-time, on-budget, and on-specification.
The BC will be a self-contained department consisting of:
* Contracts
* Purchasing
Manufacture will occur either in a shared manufacturing facility in the UK or at one of our overseas subsidiaries where manufacture takes place, currently in China and Thailand, or any combination of the above.
The Products Groups to be sold by the BC are:
* Food (including sugar & other sweeteners)
* Experimental (principally geotechnical centrifuges for research institutes)
* Environment (recovery applications including carbon capture, flue gas desulphurisation, and waste treatment)
The markets are global and can either be approached directly or through the Company’s overseas subsidiaries in China, Thailand, India, and the USA.
The BM’s main functions are outlined below:
* Remain close to the market to gather intelligence, generate prospects, and obtain feedback on the operation of our equipment in the field. Visit customers, attend conferences, and technical forums to achieve this, and network globally.
* Manage the business centre team to ensure that enquiries and orders are handled effectively to the best outcome for the Company & Customer. This includes:
* Manage the departmental budget to ensure a positive contribution (net profit) by managing resources and expenditure.
* Perform reviews for team members and report to Management on any performance-related issues such as work above expectations or disciplinary action. Also, advise on training that might help the Employee & Company.
* Make recommendations to the Board on resources & procedures in the Commercial department to improve the Company’s effectiveness.
* Report monthly to the Board of Directors on progress of projects, performance against budgets, and other pertinent issues.
* Ensure the relevant reporting tools are kept up to date.
* Report monthly to the Directors on performance (including project cost reports).
This is a challenging role, and you will receive the support of the JMDs & the FD to help the successful candidate.
