We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated individuals who enjoy the challenge of working in an environment where no two days are the same and who can provide administrative support to a busy Surgical Admissions Unit.
Main duties of the job
The prime responsibilities of the post holder will be to assist the nursing teams of the department with a variety of administrative and clerical duties and work alongside the multidisciplinary team. The successful applicants will work as part of a team and be responsible for the provision of a high-quality administrative service to the ward.
Job responsibilities
PRIMARY DUTIES & AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
The successful applicants will work as part of a team and be responsible for the provision of a high-quality administrative service to the ward.
The prime responsibility of the post holder will be to assist the nurse in charge of the ward with a variety of administrative and clerical duties to ensure the smooth running of the unit. A good standard of general education, previous clerical experience, and excellent written and oral communication skills are essential. Previous hospital or experience of working within multi-disciplinary teams would be an obvious advantage.
Administrative and Clerical Duties
1. Record admission, transfer and discharge activity data onto the Trust systems.
2. Handle telephone calls from relatives, hospital staff, public etc., under guidance where necessary from the Sister/Charge Nurse, and making calls where appropriate on behalf of ward staff.
3. Ensure that patients' medical records (including x-rays) are available on the ward, obtaining these where necessary from other departments.
4. Transfer pathology and other reports to patients' records, and general collation of records promptly and efficiently, especially on patients' discharge.
5. Deliver patients' mail.
6. Order stationary and complete requisition forms under instruction from Sister/Charge Nurse.
7. Complete electronic admission/bed system as required.
8. Maintaining records on behalf of Sister/Charge Nurse.
Assisting to maintain high standards of care
1. Assist in the welcome and reception of patients and visitors into the clinical area.
2. Maintain a safe working environment, reporting incidents, accidents, complaints.
3. Understand the need to maintain and respect patient confidentiality.
4. Participate in in-service training.
5. Participate in mandatory training annually.
6. Participate in annual performance appraisal.
7. Undertake duties on different wards/depts as and when required by service demands.
Develop good working relationships
1. Participate in appropriate and relevant communications networks.
2. Ensure the maintenance of good relationships, communications, and teamwork with all disciplines within the ward/department.

Qualifications
* English equivalent to a minimum of level 2 on the National Qualification Framework
* Numeracy skills equivalent to level 2 on the National Qualification Framework
