We have a new opportunity for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Project Development team.
This is a mechanical/steam/water focused engineering role which will provide specialist expertise for new project development and existing plant operations.
Reporting to the Principal Engineer, the Senior Mechanical Engineer will provide engineering advice and guidance as part of the design, construction, and commissioning of AMPs Industrial Heat projects that include biomass boilers, HV & LV electric boilers, green hydrogen generation & thermal storage systems. The role will include pro-active optimisation and management of operational improvements to AMP’s industrial hot-water and steam generating biomass boiler plants and other low-carbon heat generating assets.

The role will involve:
* Providing mechanical engineering design and technical guidance across our projects, throughout the project lifecycle, from feasibility studies through to detailed design and installation support
* Leading on the design of modifications to existing plant in collaboration with the Principal Engineer
* Undertaking design investigations and prepare reports for internal and external use
* Supporting the Operations & Maintenance Team with providing design information
* Providing engineering technical guidance and support to the Operations & Maintenance teams
* When required, be the responsible internal technical authority, providing expertise to our customers on industrial low- & high-temperature hot water and steam boilers and ancillary system, including water treatment and compressed air plants
* Partnering with operational stakeholders to perform operational root cause analysis, troubleshooting, mitigation, and problem solving of plant issues ensuring a prompt technical response for urgent issues throughout asset lifecycle
* Partnering with operational & project development stakeholders and engineering teams, providing both technical and specialist support
* Working with the Head of Industrial Biomass and Site Supervisors to reduce down-time, improve performance, cost efficiencies and reliability of the boiler
* Supporting the Head of Industrial Biomass in delivery of asset integrity management for all critical equipment categories and assets, to maintain safe, reliable, and efficient biomass boilers and steam generating systems
* To be present onsite to support, provide advice and guidance as required during scheduled maintenance, routine investigations, and emergency breakdowns
* Supporting boiler annual inspections to drive asset availability
* Producing mechanical engineering documents (equipment specifications, schedules, reports and drawings)
* Ensuring all relevant Health and Safety policies, procedures, and Standards are considered in engineering guidance and documentation
* Supporting the operations with routine maintenance and troubleshooting to improve the reliability and performance of steam generating systems.
* Supporting continuous improvement of procedures and processes to drive efficiency and innovation.
* Engaging regularly with the Client and stakeholders to build and maintain positive collaborative relationships
What we are looking for:
A strong leader with excellent communication skills who has with the ability to build and manage teams, has high concern for ensuring excellent operational standardsand has the following knowledge, skills and experience:
* Degree educated in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering
* Chartered Engineer Status
* Previous experience of biomass boiler and steam generation assets, including solutions, regulations, standards and operating environment influences
* Demonstrable experience providing technical guidance for steam, HTHW, LTHW and water treatment systems and sound knowledge of boiler water treatment
* Strong understanding of LTHW, steam, HTHW and CHP generating plant and ancillary equipment
* A strong decision maker, to be able to assess a situation, problem solve and confidently come up with the best course of action possible
* Excellent knowledge of MS Excel and data manipulation to identify system performance, trends and routes to improvement
* Knowledge of high, medium and low voltage power supply and distribution systems associated with thermal energy plants.
* Ability to prepare project cost estimates for major CAPEX and plant improvement projects, including investment analysis
* A strong focus on efficiency with the ability to drive continuous improvement
* Excellent communication skills to build good working relationships with teams, contractors and clients
* Strong organisational and time management skills to ensure tasks are completed on time and deadlines are met
* Ability to develop solutions to complex engineering problems
* Highly developed knowledge and understanding of relevant statutory regulations relating to mechanical and electrical plant
* Familiarity with SCADA/DCS/BMS controls systems
* Experience and understanding of fault finding/root cause analysis
* Demonstratable experience of overseeing frontline mechanical and/or electrical maintenance

Additional Information:
* Location: Ideally based in the Central Belt of Scotland to enable travel to various sites
* Competitive salary to be discussed at interview.
* Hours of work: 40 per week, Monday to Friday between the hours of 8am & 6pm with a 1-hour unpaid lunch
* Contract Type: Permanent
* Full, Clean UK Driving Licence
* Flexibility is required as there will be frequent travel to AMP sites across the UK including overnight stays
