About the role
The Economy and Climate Change team plays a key role in supporting sustainable and inclusive economic growth across Cambridgeshire and one important aspect of this is working with communities to reduce energy consumption and develop a variety of energy projects, in line with their vision and aspirations. We are looking to appoint a Community Energy Development Officer to help deliver our work with schools and the wider community to help deliver net zero and reduce fuel poverty and inequalities. You will work with a wide range of community groups and other stakeholders to bring forward a range of energy projects to support low carbon lifestyles for our communities. This is a great opportunity to join a supportive and friendly team working across a number of the Council's functions. If you are someone with strong financial and technical skills combined with an ability to communicate with a variety of audiences and a desire to make a difference across Cambridgeshire, this could be a great role for you. Our office base is Sackville House, Cambourne, with flexibility to work in alternative Council office locations, as well as homeworking. The post is fixed term for 2 years with the possibility of being extended / made permanent. About you
You will have a good understanding of the technical and financial aspects of renewable energy and other energy saving projects and a keenness to develop your knowledge in this area. You will be able to constructively work with groups and stakeholders on projects of a variety of sizes and types to understand viability challenges and manage their resources efficiently, to deliver successful projects. Being competent with software tools is essential. Enabling constraints mapping for projects and being able to support groups in a workshop setting to learn to use these skills too will be required. You will enjoy working with communities and have a clear and constructive communication style, when explaining technical and financial issues to a non-technical audience. You will have an excellent written style and be able to develop copy for websites and other resources and guides for communities. You will also be proactive in seeking out best practice from other authorities and public sector partners regularly.
