Role
This is an amazing opportunity for a Technical Product Owner to join our Systems business and help to define and deliver a key component of our Maritime Surveillance and Fisheries Monitoring solution. The Technical Product Owner will work within a development team focussed on integrating sensing and communication technologies, alongside developing software features to get the best out of these devices. The team works with Radar, VHF/HF radio systems, AIS, Radio Direction Finders and high-performance surveillance cameras that form an essential part of our maritime surveillance solutions.
In the role of Technical Product Owner we work a Hybrid working model, with at least 1 day a week in our Cardiff office. Therefore the role is commutable from such places as Bristol, Malvern, Tewkesbury, Newport, Filton, Gloucester, Cheltenham, Swindon, Reading, Stroud, Worcester, Swansea and the surrounding areas.
Role Responsibilities of the Technical Product Owner (not exhaustive):
* Act as Technical Product Owner in our edge sensing and communications team
* Work with the team to integrate Radar, Surveillance Camera, Radio communication and other complex sensor solutions into our maritime domain awareness solutions
* Develop your understanding of third-party sensor systems capabilities, interfaces and system architectures alongside your knowledge of our requirements to build solutions that work for our customers
* Evolve early product concepts into features that solve our user’s problems
* Be the subject matter expert on our sensor integrations
* Collaborate with stakeholders, technical SMEs, and customers to define and refine innovative new features for our roadmap
* Work closely with UX/UI design colleagues to ensure new features meet a high bar for usability and visual impact
* Build strong relationships your stakeholders and ensure alignment across development teams
* Present features to the wider team in reviews
* Train our Customer Success and Support teams on new sensor and communications functionality
* Understand wider end-to-end use cases for our systems and how our mobile apps fit into an overall solution
Skills, Experience and Qualities we are looking for in our Technical Product Owner
* Technical Product ownership experience, ideally developing networked systems that integrate third party sensors and radio communication technology
* You can demonstrate a good understanding of best practice in Agile software delivery and the role of a product owner in that context
* You’re comfortable working at pace, managing change and removing uncertainty
* You have experience collaborating with UX/UI designers, data scientists, and developers
* A clear and concise communicator, able to bring complex topics to a non-technical audience and infer requirements from non-technical stakeholders and users
* You are pragmatic in your approach to Product Management and Agile delivery
* You’re able to clearly convey requirements in both formal requirements documentation and user story format
* Some background in software development, solution architecture or another technical discipline will be beneficial as you’ll need to hold your own in technical discussions with our team and suppliers
* You’re happy to stretch your product skills into software delivery management
* Any experience in the maritime or asset tracking domains is a bonus, as is experience with radio communications systems or IoT products
* A role related Engineering Degree would prove highly beneficial, but not essential for this role
