Main Purpose of Job: To assist the Subject Leader for English, and English teachers in the development and implementation of a programme of work to support targeted pupils to achieve their full learning potential and target grades in English. To work closely with the Subject Leader for English to undertake a range of activities to support targeted students. There is a Special Needs input to support pupils. Support is both on a one to one basis, in groups and in class in English and other lessons around the school. 2. Main Responsibilities and Duties: Support the teaching and learning processes. Under the guidance and direction of teaching staff: To identify students that need additional help with English. To deliver to these students in-class support and small group extraction work. Develop, maintain, and apply knowledge and understanding of pupils’ general and specific learning needs to ensure that support is given to them at an appropriate level. Learning support is delivered individually and in groups through a range of tasks, mainly: Helping students understand key texts and poems. Motivate and encourage pupils to concentrate on and fulfil the tasks set. Seek to ensure the promotion and reinforcement of pupils’ self esteem, appropriate levels of effort and behaviour, and to guide pupils to become independent learners. Undertake literacy assessment on behalf of the department when students join at times throughout the year. To work with SENCO and Subject Leader for English to develop extraction group folders for students to work on. To deliver 1:1 tutoring programme in English where possible and when appropriate. To promote opportunities for reading in KS3 through organising/distributing ‘book boxes’ via academic mentors. To upkeep intervention data files. There are many advantages to working for us.
