Our dedicated marine team is based in Chichester and consists of experts in marine operations, ship engineering, and mineral resources.We are seeking a dedicatedSecond Officer (Safety Officer)to join our team at the City of Cardiff and City of Chichester. Reporting directly to the Master, you will be responsible for maintaining the safety and efficiency of vessel operations during your watch. Your role is crucial in ensuring the ship's navigational integrity and safety management.This position allows you to enjoy a 3 weeks on, 3 weeks off rotation, meaning you can balance work and personal life effectively.Please note that Tarmac is only supporting the recruitment process, and employees will be employed directly by TMG.Role Responsibilities:Serve as a safe and efficient watch keeper, taking command on behalf of the Master during your watch.Adhere to the Master's Standing Orders at all times.Act as the vessel's navigator, managing navigational instruments, plotting gear, charts, and nautical publications, including GMDSS and Navtex.Fulfil the duties of the Safety Officer as defined in the Code of Safe Working Practices (COSWP).Maintain discipline on the bridge, ensuring it remains clean and seamanlike.Participate as a member of the vessel's emergency response team, in line with the Ship's Emergency Plan.Oversee the maintenance and implementation of the vessel's emergency plan and instructions.Collaborate with the Master to arrange regular drills and exercises involving the emergency organisation.Manage cargo handling duties as delegated, remaining accountable to the Master at all times.Conduct regular inspections of all lifesaving and firefighting equipment, maintaining accurate records and ensuring proper maintenance and replacement.Monitor the condition of the vessel's radio aerials and maintain the radio batteries and aerial plan.Requisition, issue, and periodically examine Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for all crew members.Manage medical equipment and facilities on board, ensuring the medical locker is well-maintained and stocked.Assist with deck work as required when not on watch.Operate the Permit to Work (PTW) and Task Risk Assessment (TRA) systems as described in procedures.Manage responsibilities related to the Asbestos Management Plan.Qualifications:Valid certificate to serve as Second Officer.Completion of a Merchant Navy Safety Officials Course or equivalent.Fulfilment of all mandatory and company requirements related to training, certificates, and courses.Actively working towards obtaining your PECs as experience and competence develop.Why Tarmac Marine?At Tarmac Marine, we pride ourselves on our commitment to safety, sustainability, and innovation.
