Urology Clinical Support Sister/Charge Nurse

Job overview
To provide clinical excellence, leadership, innovation, and facilitated learning, the post holder will have responsibility for leading and developing this specialty service to provide equitable care to patients presenting with urological cancers and act as a resource to carers, multi-disciplinary colleagues, and the primary health care team.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will manage a supervised caseload/client group providing highly specialist expert nursing advice, information, and support to patients with urological cancer and their families at all stages of their disease, ensuring a smooth transition of care from primary surgery through to radiotherapy/chemotherapy and into the community, to discharge or death. This role establishes links between the acute and primary care group, supporting both patient and carers.
The post holder will liaise with services within South Tees Hospitals NHS Trust and County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust, as well as key partners such as Macmillan Cancer Support, Northern Cancer Alliance, Clinical Commissioning Groups, Primary Care Trusts, Social Services, and Hospices to ensure quality service provision for all patients under their care. They will provide assistance, support, and health promotion advice to other staff, while improving clinical practice, enhancing service provision, and streamlining patient-focused care. The post holder will be an active core member of the multi-disciplinary team and network with other professionals, locally and nationally for the purpose of developing practice, research, audit, development of standardized patient information, and clinical supervision.

Knowledge and Skills
* Knowledge of audit and research processes and its application
* Knowledge of the Clinical Governance agenda and NHS Plan
* Knowledge about the development of the specialist nurse role in a modern NHS
* In-depth level of knowledge of urological cancers and ongoing management
* Knowledge of strategic issues which influence management of cancer patients
QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING B5
* Diploma or Degree in Adult Nursing.
* Registered as fit to practice by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
Experience B5
* Experience of Multi-disciplinary working.
* Experience working within an acute or community setting

* NMC level 1 registration
* 1st level degree or working towards
* Specialist qualification in cancer care/palliative care/urological nursing or willing to undertake
