There is an exciting opportunity to join the recently established Strategic Flood Risk team at North Lincolnshire Council leading the delivery of local flood risk management in North Lincolnshire, working with partners to reduce the risk of flooding, and improve the water environment locally. You will help to assess flood risk in the area, to investigate incidents of flooding and to deliver projects that help to reduce flood risk.
This role will be a statutory consultee for surface water in planning applications and make a significant contribution to the delivery of our ambitious programme of works for new and improved flood defence infrastructure, promoting the role of sustainable drainage systems (SuDS) in effective flood risk mitigation. You will provide expert advice on the surface water management provisions of new developments and land drainage proposals. You will also provide drainage and flood risk advice for residents, partners, Local Plans, Strategic Flood Risk Assessments, Local Flood Risk Management Strategies and other strategic documents.
What will you be doing?
• Providing technical assessment and advice to the Local Planning Authority on the suitability of surface water drainage proposals for new development
• Ensuring the council (as Lead Local Flood Authority) continues to fulfil its role as statutory consultee in the planning system
• Providing professional technical responses to development applications ensuring that drainage systems are sustainable and sufficiently effective in protecting communities from flooding.
• Working with applicants to promote the implementation of sustainable drainage systems on new developments.
• Working with developers and landowners to regulate activity on ordinary watercourses, ensuring that the designs of works are appropriate, sustainable, and do not adversely impact flow within watercourses.
