An opportunity within the Adult Speech and Language Therapy team has arisen for a motivated, creative individual who can demonstrate initiative and flexibility.
You will be expected to work alongside and support the qualified members of the Speech and Language Therapy Department providing routine treatment packages of care under supervision. You will have excellent peer support and receive supervision from an experienced SLT within the team. Training and CPD opportunities are actively encouraged. You will require excellent IT skills to help create resources, as well as possess general administration skills to maintain therapy materials and programme communication aid devices. You will have excellent communication and prioritization skills. Experience of working with adults with communication difficulties is essential.
You will be based at Darlington Memorial Hospital but will be required to work across a variety of settings within County Durham and in-patient DMH Adult Speech and Language Therapy teams.
Main duties of the job
1. To deliver therapy programmes devised by the Speech and Language Therapist in one to one situations, under direct/indirect supervision, at the discretion of the Speech and Language Therapist as part of community service and Darlington Memorial Hospital in-patient Speech and Language Therapy service.
2. To devise and maintain therapy resources.
3. To provide both clinical and administrative support to Speech and Language Therapists.
Job responsibilities
1. To deliver therapy programmes as devised by the Speech and Language Therapist for adults in one to one situations, at the discretion of the supervising Speech and Language Therapist.
2. To aid in the delivery of therapy programmes as devised by the Speech and Language Therapist in group situations, under the direct supervision of the Speech and Language Therapist or higher level assistant.
3. Monitors the use and condition of all equipment used as part of treatment programmes and reports any defects to the appropriate person.
4. Maintains equipment in a clean and safe condition.
5. To provide appropriate information and support to adults and their carers, working with a high level of support, direct supervision and direction from Speech and Language Therapists and higher level assistants.
6. To liaise with adults, their carers and colleagues regarding the adults care and management with support from Speech and Language Therapists.
7. To carry out a wide range of administrative tasks that assist Speech and Language Therapists and Assistants in delivering assessment, diagnostic, therapeutic information, training, advice and support to adults, their carers and other stakeholders.
8. To produce, maintain and catalogue assessment and intervention resources under the supervision of Speech and Language Therapists.
9. To implement quality standards related to the client group with a high level of support, direct supervision and direction from Speech and Language Therapists on a regular basis.
10. To participate in activities designed to improve the effectiveness of service provision, working with a high level of support, direct supervision and direction from Speech and Language therapists.
11. To observe personal duty of care in relation to equipment and resources used in the course of work.
12. To provide support to volunteers within the Department, with guidance from Speech and Language Therapists.
13. To be responsible for data entry, text processing or storage of data, utilising paper or computer based data entry systems as required.
14. To undertake administrative record keeping and information gathering activities expected of the team within the required time frame.
15. To take part in regular clinical supervision and peer support.
16. To participate in the current appraisal system.
17. To provide accurate statistical information as requested.
18. To ensure that client records are maintained at all times.
19. To attend and take part in all relevant meetings, training and service development activities.
20. To behave at all times in such a way as to foster a positive image of the service and colleagues.
21. To undertake additional duties as considered appropriate by the professional lead and clinical team lead.
22. To comply with the Health and Safety regulations and any other relevant Trust policies.

Special Skills and Knowledge
* Good verbal and written communication skills.
* Good interpersonal skills.
* Knowledge of limited range of routine strategies and techniques for facilitating adults communication skills.
* Ability to make judgements involving straightforward facts or situations.
* Ability to plan and organise one's own working day to day work tasks or activities, including handling a small given caseload.
* Well-developed empathic and listening skills.
* Skills in making judgements that involve a range of facts or situations, some of which may require analysis or comparison of a range of options.
* Organisational skills, including those related to diary management.
Experience
* Experience working with adults or another vulnerable communication impaired group.
Special Requirements
* Ability to travel independently county wide and carry small items of equipment on a daily basis.
* Commitment, motivation and ability to work flexibly within a multidisciplinary service.
Qualifications
* High standard of computer literacy, including using Microsoft Office.
