Assistant Design Manager - Stonecross

Murphy is currently recruiting for a Assistant Design Manager to join our award-winning Energy team in our Stonecross Office, Golborne, WA3 3JD. The Assistant Design Manager will assist with providing safe, practical and economic designs for internal project delivery functions to effectively allow the procurement, construction, installation and commissioning activities for Oil & Gas projects to a high standard of professional competence and in compliance with Company procedures.
Following the ‘One Murphy’ approach, we’re able to deliver all aspects of the projects we work on. Murphy has designed, constructed, and commissioned projects for clients including National Grid, Cadent Gas, OPA, SGN, National Grid Ventures, on both transmission and distribution networks. Our projects include Compressor stations, Natural Gas and LNG Terminals, AGI’s, pipelines and diversions.
What you will be doing:
1. Review submissions as directed for quality and sufficiency.
2. Ensure conformance to the Murphy Design Management procedure.
3. Lead design engineering matters on small/medium sized project/s as directed.
4. Monitor, co-ordinate, and manage the design by internal designers, consultants, suppliers, and interface contractors as appropriate.
5. Attend site as required to liaise with Site Managers / Engineers
6. Ensure that that Aconex (or client approved alternative CDE system) is adequately setup and being utilised correctly by all designers, site operations and external stakeholders.
7. Monitor, track and report on Design progress against the project programme
8. Ensure appropriate consideration of constructability and permanent works in relation to Temporary Works.
9. Own and manage the Design Change process on projects.
10. Own and manage Technical Query process upstream to clients and external stakeholders and downstream with suppliers and consultants.
11. Manage design co-ordinators on the project and within the business unit as appropriate.
12. Allocate design tasks to individuals/companies as required and maintain associated RACI.
13. Review design progress and detail using CAD/BIM tools.
14. Ensure monitoring and reporting on Design NCRs and associated close out.
15. Maintain good and professional relationships with the Client, Consultants, Sub-Contractors, Suppliers and Statutory Authorities
16. Liaise with the wider team such as Surveyors, Buyers, Contract Managers, Project Managers, Site Managers and Estimators to engender a team approach for each project.
17. Ensure an understanding of, and an influence on the contracts Design Consultants are working under including their fees, schedule of services, programme, and liabilities and warranties.
18. Review and comment the payment applications from consultants and pass to the contract surveyor for processing and payment.
19. Ensure compliance with Standards and Client requirements and assist in monitoring to ensure working to design requirements.
Who we are looking for
20. HNC/HND in civil engineering, construction or similar
21. Professional affiliated membership of applicable Engineering Institution or evidence of ongoing progression towards
22. Engineering Design Experience i.e. Oil and Gas and/or process EPC projects
23. Exposure to Design management/coordination and construction experience
24. Experience of Autodesk suite including AutoCAD, Revit and Navisworks.
25. Digitally familiar with BIM and CDEs and document control systems and processes
