Hours -
Responsible to – Head of School/ SENCO
Liaison with – Governors, staff, parents, pupils, and outside agencies
Purpose of role:
To provide targeted intervention both within and outside of the classroom to help identified children overcome barriers to learning. To support and improve children’s social, emotional, and mental health, and thus raise their achievement. To be a deputy designated safeguarding lead (DDSL).
Duties and responsibilities:
To work alongside teachers and the SENCO to identify children who could benefit most from a learning mentor, drawing up and implementing individual support plans (ISP) accordingly,
Work with pupils (1:1 and groups) to achieve individual support plans (ISP) targets. Liaise with other relevant staff in school to implement the agreed plan,
To ensure class teachers are given guidance, strategies, and resources so they can effectively build on the intervention's success,
Promote the speedy and effective transfer of pupil information from primary to secondary schools, across primary schools and within schools, to ensure that the arrangements for those moving or leaving are managed effectively,
To work closely with parents/carers to provide holistic support for the child in school and via relevant external agencies,
To participate in planning and review meetings where a child or family is known to external agencies, including social care,
To support identified children during unstructured times,
To maintain records,
To support with school attendance matters
To respond to the individual needs of pupils as they arise, supporting children both within and outside of the classroom so that they can access a positive school experience,
To help with children with medical needs, e.g. diabetes/allergies and intimate care.
General
To respect confidentiality at all times
To attend relevant school meetings/functions, as required
To attend relevant training and take responsibility for own development
To participate in the performance and development review process taking personal responsibility for identification of learning, development and training and opportunities in discussion with line manager
To comply with individual responsibilities, in accordance with the role for health and safety in the workplace.
