Job overview
Applications are invited for substantive consultant posts in Emergency Medicine in Salisbury District Hospital. Posts are available for those seeking a substantive appointment although shorter-term contracts would be considered. Successful candidates will establish a 12.6 WTE workforce on a 10 PA FT contract - the job plan split would be 7.5 DCC and 2.5 SPA. The rota is annualised and working patterns can meet individual needs.
The Emergency Department at Salisbury District Hospital is a small District General Hospital situated in a rural location serving the populations of Hampshire, Dorset, and Wiltshire. The department is a Trauma Unit aligned with the MTC at Southampton. The department sees around 58,000 attendances per year, of which 25% are Paediatric. Successful applicants will work in a department that sees the full range of EM patients but with its location close to Salisbury Plain, there is a large military population which has its own health requirements and the rural location does result in a very varied type of trauma associated with that population and outdoor pursuits.
Main duties of the job
The department is currently developing the service delivered and to that extent we are looking for individuals with a desire to support and develop innovation and the service. We would be keen to recruit those with interests in PEM, Older Persons Medicine, and other aligned interests. We support those on the CESR pathway to CCT and there is a focus on education, simulation, and the department supports Trust grade Fellows in these fields. We are developing an ACP/PA workforce and again would support applicants with an interest in developing or previous experience in establishing these workforces. Those with a PEM interest would be encouraged to apply as we progress towards an integrated PED/DAU service for Paediatric patients.

We support flexible working and will consider requests taking into account the needs of the service. We think working here is pretty rewarding.
