Job Overview
We are seeking a well-motivated and forward-thinking Physiotherapist to work within the Surgical & Critical Care team as part of the wider Inpatient Physiotherapy Department at Frimley Park Hospital.
Under the guidance of the Band 7 Team Lead & clinical specialist, you will have the opportunity to develop both clinically and managerially within a friendly and supportive environment where excellence is encouraged. The Physiotherapy department has proactively changed its approach to rehabilitation within the acute setting and we are looking for the right candidate to help develop our service and to promote the role of Physiotherapy.
The acute surgical wards & 8-bedded Surgical Acute Dependency unit on the main site are part of the Surgical directorate and there is an emphasis on early mobilisation, post-operative respiratory care & advice & discharge planning to allow patients to receive best care for their needs within the optimal setting, whilst minimising the risks of post-operative complications. Strong links with the specialist teams (such as Colorectal & Vascular) and effective multi-disciplinary working help to facilitate early decision making and effective therapy interventions.
The 14-bedded critical care unit & the Post-Anaesthetic Care Unit are part of the Anaesthetic directorate. There is a very strong rehabilitation ethos within the unit & the physiotherapy team are integral to this.
Main duties of the job
* As a senior clinician you will be involved in the supervision, education and appraisal of physiotherapists, support staff and students and you will have the opportunity to lead and be involved in appropriate service development. CPD opportunities to develop these skills will be available as part of your appraisal process.
* The post holder will be required to work their hours over a seven day pattern, working 1 in 4 weekends and participate in the evening on call rota (Monday to Friday nights only).

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
* To be responsible as an autonomous practitioner to undertake a significant clinical caseload on the Surgical wards, take an active clinical role on the Critical Care unit and to cover for leave on other surgical areas as required.
* To undertake the comprehensive assessment of patients including those with complex presentation using investigative and analytical skills. To seek guidance from senior staff as required.
* To devise an individualised physiotherapy management and/or treatment plan, using clinical reasoning skills to utilise a range of treatment options in formulating a specialised programme of care.
* To propose and make changes to working practices in consultation with the speciality lead where applicable.
* To maintain a high standard of clinical care using evidence-based practices and evaluate the outcomes.
* To be able to prioritise both clinical and managerial work including responding to urgent referrals and an unpredictable workload. This will require frequent concentration in an unpredictable environment.
* To handle emotionally challenging situations empathetically, especially when conveying sensitive information.
* To deputise for the Team leader in their absence.
* To maintain and provide accurate and timely statistical information as required in consultation with senior staff.
* To be responsible for the training of students on placement, juniors, technicians and assistants within the clinical area.
* To be responsible for and actively record your own personal development that will include appraisal activities.
Person specification
Experience
Essential criteria
* To have completed core band 5 rotations in NHS.
* To be respiratory oncall competent.
* To have experience of working within critical care and surgical wards.
Desirable criteria
* To be working at band 6 level within NHS.
Knowledge
Essential criteria
* Able to demonstrate knowledge in critical care physiotherapy.
* Able to demonstrate knowledge in surgical physiotherapy.
* Awareness of current issues within critical care and surgical healthcare fields.
Desirable criteria
* Evidence of recent training within relevant field.
Skills
Essential criteria
* Evidence of management/supervision for junior physiotherapists, physio assistants/technicians and/or students.
* Able to reflect on own clinical practice.
* Evidence of teaching other physiotherapy team members/MDT.
Desirable criteria
* Evidence of recent use/training in the CPAF.
* To have been involved in audit/QI project.
* Evidence of leadership.
Qualifications
Essential criteria
* Degree/MSc or equivalent in physiotherapy.
* Registration with HCPC.
Desirable criteria
* Member of Chartered Society of Physiotherapy.
* Member of relevant specialist interest group.
