Job Description
As a senior counsel/ managing counsel, you will work in and potentially manage a team of 4 more junior contract manager/ legal counsel heads and work on commercial, construction and utilities infrastructure matters.
The client is seeking a safe pair of hands and someone with ample in-house experience focusing on a broad range of legal matters associated with utilities/ energy infrastructure, construction, and infrastructure industries.
This is a contractor position (day rate) for an initial term of approximately 3 months, but there are possibilities and likelihood of extensions or longer-term position if there is a good fit.
This role is likely to cover the below matters:
1. Review and Negotiate All Client Contracts (Pre – Contract) including PCSA, NEC, JCT, FIDIC, LOIs, Bespoke.
2. Commercial matters and BAU enquiries coming from all business units.
3. Review and Negotiate Adoption Agreements with IDNOs.
4. Review/Negotiate draft Wayleaves, Indemnities, Easements, BAPA, CRT agreements.
5. Liaise with Insurer to get Performance bonds and Advance Payment bonds agreed and in place.
6. Liaise with Banks to get Standby Letters of Credit in place for bonds.
7. Liaise with Insurance Broker on insurance provisions in the Client Contracts.
8. Assist with the annual insurance renewal, in particular PI.
9. Manage small Legal Team of 4 - if you are not ready for a management position then this can be removed from the day-to-day, however, the ideal would be to have someone who can manage the legal team day-to-day.
10. Assist in developing processes for the business.
11. Europe Set up.
12. UAE Set up.
13. Assist and manage any post contractual issues.
14. Manage external counsel.
The successful candidate will likely have:
1. A minimum of 6 years PQE.
2. Experience in-house in energy, utilities, construction or infrastructure business.
3. Private practice experience specializing in the above matters or had a secondment if not currently working in-house.
4. Be a self-starter and able to operate independently and work closely with senior stakeholders in the business.
5. Be able to support, mentor or manage 4 junior members in the team if required.
6. Potentially be experienced enough to take on a more senior role within the business – General Counsel and Head of Legal candidates could suit this role very well.
7. Able to cope with changing business needs.
8. Experience with legal matters across Europe and UAE – International exposure useful as well as UK centric matters.
Day rate: £ Competitive
Start date: As soon as possible

Office working: Our client's office is based in Potters Bar (Hertfordshire). There is a requirement to be in the office up to 4 days a week.
