We are currently setting up Residential Children's homes and seeking a Deputy Manager who has the ability to build and maintain rapport with clients while providing an exceptional level of service. As a Deputy Manager, you will play a key role in maintaining supervision and care of children and will be responsible for planning and managing the day-to-day functions within the home. You must have experience in working in a Residential Children's Home setting / Supported accommodation setting.
Working as a Children's Home Deputy Manager, you must be willing to go above and beyond for the children and young people, ensuring that they have an experience of childhood that they can reflect upon and carry with them into adulthood. Your team must be driven by a shared ambition to ensure that the children and young people have an experience of childhood that they deserve, one filled with fun, laughter, friendship and discovery.
Responsibilities:
* Assist the Registered Manager in achieving the aims and objectives of the Statement of Purpose.
* Deputise in the absence of the Registered Manager.
* Support and manage the staff to enable them to meet the needs of the children and young people.
* Undertake direct work with children and young people as appropriate.
* Be the responsible person in managing child protection concerns and complaints.
* Work in partnership with other professionals to achieve optimum outcomes for young people.
* Offer supervision and support to other staff in line with Quality Standards.
Candidates will have:
* One to two years of management experience with young people in a residential setting within the past five years.
* Experience working within EBD - Emotional Behaviour Disorder.
* A supportive nature towards the young people and staff.
* An uncompromising stance on poor practices and the courage to speak out.
* Organised person, attend all meetings.
* Experience in supervision and care plans is required.
* Able to work and manage a team / able to bring the best out of the team.
* Creative person.
* Counselling skills / Training skills.
* Recruitment experience.
* Secondary education with a good standard of literacy and numeracy.
* Diploma L3 Residential Childcare (or equivalent).
* Willingness to complete Diploma L5 L&M in H&SC.
Duties & Responsibilities:
* Ensure that each young person has an allocated key worker.
* Ensure that each member of staff is aware of each child’s relevant plans and their responsibilities for its implementation.
* Carry out the role of on-call manager to provide OOH support for the home, on a rota basis.
* Attend childcare reviews and planning meetings to provide information and achieve best outcomes for young people.
* Undertake direct work with young people and act as an appropriate role model.
* Assist in developing systems in which young people are consulted about the quality of care they receive.
* Maintain accurate written records to record information and enable regular monitoring and evaluation to take place.
* Work in partnership with parents, carers and other professionals to safeguard and promote the welfare of young people.
* Chair children's meetings and facilitate consultation with young people generally.
* Act as an appropriate adult.
* Manage a staff team through providing managerial control and direction in relation to staff duties and responsibilities.
* Assist with the recruitment and retention of staff including induction training for new staff into the home.
* Supervise new starters during their probationary period.
* Develop a management style that balances the need to exercise control and give direction with the need to offer staff the opportunity for decision making.
* Take responsibility for planning shifts and ensuring their smooth running when on duty.
* Provide consultation and informal advice and support to staff in relation to day-to-day matters.
* Offer 1:1 supervision to staff in line with Quality Standards.
* Identify and progress individual training and development needs of staff in the context of their personnel development plans.
* Undertake annual appraisal of staff.
* Address issues concerning conduct and competence of staff.
* Conduct management investigations when required.
* Assist the Registered Manager in promoting personal and professional development through the appropriate delegation of duties and responsibilities.
* Contribute to the team and staff meetings to facilitate good communication and staff development.
* Ensure staff work within the Home's policies, procedures and Quality Standards requirements.
* Ensure that there are appropriate and adequate reporting and recording systems in place to comply with Quality Standards.
* Attend to all administration issues in the Home and the provision of weekly management information reports.
General responsibilities:
* Assist the Registered Manager in the implementation of all aspects of the Statement of Purpose.
* Contribute to the devising, implementing and evaluation of changes, with the involvement of front line staff, to continually improve services, systems and standards, in conjunction with the Registered Manager and the Senior Management team.
* Deputise in the absence of the Registered Manager.
* Drive company vehicles subject to policies and procedures.
* Work on a rota basis according to the needs of young people.
* Ensure that resources are allocated appropriately and financial records are accurately maintained.
* Receive supervision in line with the Quality Standards and take responsibility for personal development and progress of individual training needs.
* Carry out all other reasonable tasks as directed by the Registered Manager.
