Working hours: Monday - Friday - 5:45am-2:15pm
Hourly rate: GBP12.50ph

Job Summary
The Street Scene Operative plays a crucial role in maintaining the cleanliness and overall appearance of public spaces within Cambridgeshire. With use of the council's open cage van, this position involves the collection and disposal of public waste, including emptying public bins, addressing fly-tipping, and removing roadkill. The operative will work collaboratively with the Street Scene team to ensure that our community remains safe and clean.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Waste Management: Regularly empty and maintain public waste bins in designated areas, ensuring they are clean and functional.
2. Fly-Tipping Removal: Respond promptly to reports of fly-tipping, assessing the site and safely collecting and disposing of illegal waste.
3. Roadkill Collection: Monitor roadways for dead animals and ensure their safe and humane removal in accordance with local guidelines.
4. Public Engagement: Interact positively with community members, addressing any concerns related to street cleanliness and waste management.
5. Equipment Maintenance: Operate and maintain tools and equipment, ensuring they are in good working condition and reporting any malfunctions.
6. Health and Safety Compliance: Adhere to health and safety regulations, using personal protective equipment (PPE) as required, and ensuring safe working practices at all times.
7. Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of waste collected, fly-tipping incidents, and roadkill removal for reporting purposes.
8. Team Collaboration: Work closely with colleagues and other departments to coordinate waste management efforts and improve service delivery.
Qualifications:
1. Experience: Previous experience in waste management, environmental services, or a related field is preferred.
2. Skills: Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
3. Physical Ability: Must be physically fit and able to perform manual tasks, including lifting and carrying heavy items.
4. Communication: Good verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage with the public and report issues effectively.
5. Driving License: A valid Manual driver's license is required.

The role involves outdoor work in various weather conditions.
