The National Institute for Health Research (NIHR; www.nihr.ac.uk) is funded by the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) to improve the health and wealth of the nation through research and is the largest funder of health and social care research in the UK.
Job Purpose
As part of the OneNIHR programme, many documents are in active development or have been completed. These documents set out newly agreed ways of working across NIHR Coordinating Centres. All these documents require quality assurance to ensure they are well laid out and consistent with other documentation. They must be written to a high standard, clear and unambiguous.
We seek a person who can work with us as a member of the quality assurance team for a fixed term, to deal with a particularly large volume of documentation coming through the development system. The role requires someone who can work at pace, follow instructions, and is also able to work independently and take the initiative within the scope of training received.
Key Responsibilities
* Review and edit documents for accuracy, including correct use of in scope and out of scope designations, logical order in line with process maps, use of agreed terminology
* Review and edit documents for clarity, including identification of repetition and suggested resolution, logical content order, use of plain English, mandatory language
* Cross-checking content alignment with related documentation, including style guide
* Assisting with all other aspects of document quality assurance as directed
* Supporting authors with quality assurance requirements before and during document development
* Following up and resolving QA queries with colleagues
Supporting Responsibilities
* Assist with formatting documentation according to the NIHR Quality Assurance style guide
* Assist with reconciliation of terminology across all documents, and liaison on terminology with other work streams and functions
* Assist with publication of documentation in the NIHR documents library
* Assist with QA activities related to document reviews
* Keep and update records about documents
Qualifications and Experience
Required Criteria
* Extensive experience of copy editing, proof reading and sense checking of written documentation
* Understanding of research grant management
* Familiarity with reading and understanding process maps
* Thorough understanding of the general content and structure of business-related policies, and standard operating procedures and their purpose
* Excellent proficiency at multi-tasking while working at pace and delivering to a high standard
Desired Criteria
* Experience maintaining and updating records, both within the Google platform and collaboration platforms such as Jira

* Able to work with multiple documents at the same time to the same high standards
* Able to work independently and as part of a team
* Able to be proactive, making suggestions to improve quality assurance systems and to solve problems
* Effective at working and communicating with staff at all levels and from different functions

£47,300 to £49,900
