Location: Dumfries and Galloway
Contract: Full Time
Salary: £26,323.00
Closing date: 13 January 2025
We have an exciting opening in our DMWS Scotland Team working in partnership with NHS Dumfries and Galloway. Do you want to make a real difference to the lives of people who have served in the armed forces and their families?
We are looking for someone with a strong connection to the Armed Forces community, preferably a veteran with experience of supporting people with mental health issues. This person will deliver non-clinical mental health Peer Support Services to veterans. This will involve providing regular contact opportunities with someone the veteran can identify with, who understands their needs and anxieties and who has the professional training and awareness to help steer them on a path to wellness, help prevent crisis escalation, access appropriate support, and tackle the wider non-clinical issues impacting their wellbeing.
DMWS is working with NHS Dumfries and Galloway to put in place an effective and supportive mental health and wellbeing pathway for veterans. This is a new service, and the initial contract length is 12 months, with the possibility of extension thereafter.
DMWS is an international charity that has been providing medical welfare support to the Armed Forces Community for over 80 years. We support all members of the Armed Forces Community across the services, including serving personnel, reservists, veterans, and their family members/carers.
Healthcare professionals can achieve significant improvements in physical and mental health issues, but often there can be other challenges that someone in the Armed Forces Community faces that can inhibit their recovery. Mental health concerns, drivers behind substance abuse, social isolation, inappropriate housing, homelessness, or financial worries can affect someone’s health. DMWS tackles these non-clinical issues that can negatively impact recovery and overall wellbeing.
We offer employees the following benefits:
1. Annual Leave: 30 days a year plus Public Holidays (pro-rata’d for part-time employees).
2. Pension: Auto enrolment onto DMWS workplace pension scheme – subject to eligibility. Minimum contribution of 5% which DMWS will match, up to 6%.
3. Death in Service Scheme: Three times your annual salary to nominated beneficiaries – subject to eligibility.
4. Flexible Working: All flexible working requests are considered; many staff work flexible hours and partly from home.
5. Smart Health: Access to a 24/7 virtual GP service, with counselling service and online support around health and well-being matters.
6. Work-based Parking/Mileage: Fees for parking at work-base are repaid through expenses; mileage claims are reimbursed in line with HMRC guidelines.
7. Enhanced Sick Pay: Enhanced sick pay scheme for all employees upon completion of their probationary period.
8. Staff Recognition: Regular recognition for work by the leadership team and peers via internal events, social media, and industry awards.
9. Personal Development Programme: Support for continuing professional development and training.
10. Great training opportunities.
11. £25 contribution towards eye tests and £50 towards glasses (for DSE use only).
12. Enhanced maternity/paternity/adoption family-friendly benefits.
