Closing Date: 31/03/2025
Organisation: The Conservation Volunteers
Location: Tree Nursery Cultra, Northern Ireland
Hours: 35 per week (full time)

About the role
TCV’s native Tree Nursery based at Cultra is a prime example of how TCV enables local people to connect with nature whilst preserving the genetic heritage of native Ulster provenance trees. Our Tree Nursery encapsulates all the processes to grow our own indigenous tree stock by hand; seed collecting, processing, stratifying, sowing, lining out, and finally planting in their forever home.
We are seeking an individual with a passion for the conservation of our native trees, confidence in a range of practical skills, and a lively interest in biodiversity and environmental themes. Experience of working with and leading volunteers from a range of ages, backgrounds, and abilities is a strong advantage.
Your role will include hands-on planning and coordinating our busy programme of volunteering task days, confidently leading volunteers in all aspects of growing native trees from seed. You will be physically capable of completing practical on-site work for up to 5 hours at a time, including loading and unloading tools. The majority of your time will be based at our Tree Nursery, Cultra, with seasonal work at certified seed collection sites across Northern Ireland during July to October.
You will work in our Tree Nursery Team, linking to our wider Belfast Team as required. As this is an entry-level position, you do not have to have prior experience of all the listed responsibilities. You will receive a full induction and on-the-job training from our experienced Senior Project Officers.
At TCV, we’re unwavering in our commitment to Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion. We firmly believe that everyone deserves a connection to nature. Collaborating with your team, you’ll champion the creation of secure and inviting spaces for individuals who confront obstacles to accessing green environments. Your efforts will ensure that our initiatives remain pertinent and accessible to the diverse communities we serve.
We are happy to consider any reasonable adjustments that candidates may need during the recruitment process, and you will be asked whether you require any during your application. If you would like to discuss your requirements further, please contact the People Team via recruitment@tcv.org.uk or by telephone on 01302 388883. We also offer reasonable adjustments on the job.
