Applications are invited for a Consultant Respiratory Physician at Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The post is offered at 6PAs.
We are keen to appoint enthusiastic, dynamic, and motivated consultants to our forward-thinking team that prides itself on providing high quality respiratory care across a comprehensive range of respiratory services.
The Trust is one of a small number of hospitals nationally confirmed to be in an early phase of the national New Hospital Build Programme. This will result in the acute hospital on the Leighton site being completely rebuilt and operational by 2031, providing fantastic opportunities for development and transformation of elective and acute surgical services at MCHFT.
The successful applicant must have full registration with the GMC and continue to hold a Licence to Practise. The applicant must also be on the Specialist Register or be within six months of obtaining their Certificate of Completion of Training in Respiratory Medicine.
Main duties of the job
It is expected that the post holder will contribute to the leadership, delivery, and development of our future Respiratory services at Mid Cheshire Hospitals Foundation Trust (MCHFT) as well as the exciting New Hospital Program that is in development at the current Leighton Hospital site. There is an opportunity to develop, progress and deliver sub-specialty services for Respiratory Medicine in the following areas:
1. Respiratory Physician specialising in Pulmonary Oncology
2. Interstitial Lung Disease
3. Sleep and Ventilation
4. Tuberculosis and Complex infections
5. Severe Asthma and Airways Disease

Job responsibilities
The post is offered at 6 PA. The post holder will be expected to undertake 4.5 programmed activities (PAs) of Direct Clinical Care and 1.5 programmed activities (PAs) of Supporting Professional Activity per week.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Full GMC Registration
* Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via: CCT (proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview), CESR or European Community Rights
* MB ChB/MBBS or equivalent
* Other postgraduate qualification e.g. MD, PhD
Experience
* Extensive experience in Acute / Respiratory Medicine including bronchoscopy and the ability to undertake endobronchial biopsies
* Trained in EBUS
* Trained in thoracic ultrasound to level 2 standard
* Experience of running a respiratory sleep service
Ability
* Recognised ability to work within, and provide leadership to, the multidisciplinary team
* Excellent interpersonal skills
* Flexibility of approach
* Commitment to clinical risk management and implementation of clinical governance
* Effective team leader
Audit & Research
* Relevant experience in clinical audit
* Relevant experience in research and evidence of publications
* Ability to develop evidence-based practice
Teaching and Education
* Evidence to allow accreditation as a Consultant Clinical Supervisor for trainee doctors with the GMC
* Experience and interest in teaching both junior medical and non-medical staff
* Evidence of commitment to continuing professional development and lifelong learning
* Commitment to teaching
* Membership of Society of Acute Medicine
* Evidence to allow accreditation as a Consultant Educational Supervisor for trainee doctors with the GMC
* Recognised teaching skills course
* Special interest in role development and staff training
* Membership of relevant medical associations/learned societies
* Post Graduate Certificate of education
Other
* Ability to communicate effectively with patients and staff at all levels of the organisation
* Full driving licence
* Meets professional health requirements (in line with GMC standards in Good Medical Practice)
