0456 - Cardio-respiratory Support Physiologist
The Cardiology Department at Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust offers a range of high-quality cardiology and respiratory diagnostic procedures to the residents of Barnsley and surrounding areas as inpatients, outpatients or as direct access referrals from General Practitioners. We are looking to expand our resources to the Community Diagnostic Centre at the Glass Works, Barnsley and therefore require 3 additional Support Physiologists to work across both sites.
We are looking for enthusiastic, efficient and motivated Cardio-respiratory Support Physiologists to join our team in our busy cardio-respiratory department.
Candidates must have GCSE English and Mathematics (grade A to C) or equivalent; a science qualification would be preferred and/or healthcare experience. It is essential that the candidates work well in a team, are committed to providing a high-quality, efficient and effective service, and set high personal standards. You will need to be diligent, enthusiastic, hardworking, with the ability to communicate effectively with staff, patients and members of the public.
Candidates should have the SCST Certificate in Electrocardiography, although applications will be considered from candidates that don't have this. Candidates without the Certificate of Electrocardiography will be trained and will need to sit the exams for this national certificate.
Main duties of the job
Duties will include:
1. Performing routine electrocardiography (ECG) to SCST standards.
2. Fitting and removal of ambulatory ECG and blood pressure monitors.
3. Basic spirometry (including reversibility).
4. Fractional exhaled nitric oxide (FeNO) testing.
5. Overnight pulsoximetry.
6. Assisting a Senior Cardio-respiratory Physiologist during exercise testing.
7. Ensuring that the clinical testing rooms are clean, tidy and restocked.
8. Carrying out daily equipment and room safety checks.
9. Assisting with the practical training of new Support Physiologists and students.
10. Participating in the process of service improvement within the department.
Procedures will be carried out on a range of patients as inpatients and outpatients where there may be exposure to distressing or emotional circumstances. Exposure to patient body odours, body fluids and secretions may occur.
