Are you passionate and dedicated about improving cancer and end of life care? An exciting and new opportunity has arisen for the role of Specialist Haemato-oncology and Palliative Care (HOPe) Assistant Therapist within a newly created Specialist Haemato-oncology and Palliative Care (HOPe) AHP team at HDFT.
This is a fixed term / secondment project post until 31/3/26 from the start of appointment to develop and deliver a high-quality haemato-oncology and palliative care specialist Therapy service to patients under the care of HDFT in community and outpatient settings.
The post holder will work alongside the band 7 specialist Occupational Therapist (OT) who will lead the project, a band 6 OT, a band 6 Physiotherapist (Physio), and a Dietician within a multidisciplinary team.
Main Duties of the Job
To assist in planning, delivering, and evaluating evidence-based HOPe rehabilitation and education programs to enable patients to achieve personalised goals and facilitate 'best quality, safest care'.
Within Cancer, the service will focus on patients diagnosed with Cancer of unknown primary (CUP), Lung, Upper GI, primary Brain cancers, and those with haematological malignancy.
Within Specialist Palliative Care, the service will focus on patients with progressive life-limiting illness and complex needs within the defined referral criteria.
The Therapy Assistant will carry out planned programmes of therapy intervention for patients with complex needs, under the supervision and direction of the Registered Therapists within the HOPe team. The role involves delivering therapy interventions to patients in their own homes and outpatient clinics to:
* Facilitate optimal level of function and prevent unnecessary hospital admissions.
* Facilitate optimal level of function to enable consideration of anti-cancer treatment.
* Facilitate preferred place of care.
* Help to maximise quality of life and address individual needs.
Access to a car and a clean driving licence are essential.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Relevant NVQ level 2 or equivalent.
* Minimum of 2 years clinical experience.
* Other relevant training.
* Understanding of the therapy needs of the patient group.
* Experience of working in relevant areas.
