SEND Teaching Assistant
Sense Education is seeking a SEND Teaching Assistant to support students with additional needs and challenging behaviours in Barrow-in-Furness. In this role, you’ll assist in managing behaviour, teaching coping strategies, and supporting communication through tools like PECS and Makaton. You’ll also help promote independence and life skills as students transition to adulthood. Some personal care duties may be required.
Key Requirements:
1. Experience in behaviour management within educational or care settings
2. Familiarity with alternative communication e.g. PECS and Makaton (training available)
3. Patient, compassionate, and proactive
4. Ability to work as part of a team, following IEPs and EHCPs
About the School: This purpose-built school provides a supportive environment for students with special educational needs, offering sensory and therapy rooms, accessible spaces, and more.
Hours: 8:30 am – 3:30 pm, full-time (part-time applications considered)

Safeguarding children is an integral part of what we do and we have a stringent safer recruitment process. We undertake checks on all the candidates we work with. As such we require a current Enhanced DBS Disclosure for everyone working in Schools. If you do not have a subscription to the DBS Update Service, you may be required to complete a new DBS application as part of the registration process. If you take a temporary role with Sense Education you will be paid on a weekly basis.
All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position but long term. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available.
