Band 7 Senior Specialist Nurse - Pain Management Service
Oxford University NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an experienced pain specialist nurse to join our multidisciplinary Pain Service. The candidate should have expertise in pain management with enhanced skills required for the role, as well as experience in teaching and quality improvement. Responsibilities will include involvement in service development and initiatives aimed at improving pain management across the Trust.
Main duties of the job
We are a multidisciplinary team consisting of Advanced Clinical Practitioners, specialist nurses, consultant anaesthetists, psychologists, and support staff. Our combined service manages both inpatient services Trust-wide and outpatient services at the Churchill Hospital. The role requires working across all four sites, encompassing both inpatient and outpatient care.
There will be opportunities for professional development within the service, allowing you to expand your scope of practice. Time will be allocated for continued professional development, including relevant courses and conference attendance. You will receive full support from an allocated mentor, with clear objectives identified and annual appraisals prioritised.

Job description Job responsibilities
* To actively participate and lead where appropriate, in the development and provision of Pain services both in the in-patient and out-patient areas across the Trust, through evidence-based practice. The role will encompass all aspects of acute and chronic pain.
* To provide high quality, effective, individualised pain management advice to all patients that is compassionate and caring.
* To manage complex patients through expert assessment, identifying specific care needs and utilising skills to implement care and evaluate accordingly with awareness of when support is needed from senior colleagues.
* To create and manage the development and continuation of training/education programmes.
* To identify areas of development within the service and lead on audit and quality improvement projects.
* To deputise for the Lead Nurse/Advanced Clinical Practitioners if required and act as the Pain Service co-ordinator when allocated.

Person Specification
Education Essential
* 1st level registered nurse
* First level degree in nursing
* Demonstrable Level 7 working either (specialist MSc or within/completed ACP apprenticeship programme)
* Evidence of educational development within pain management (specialist pain course or equivalent pain experience)
Desirable
* Evidence of enhanced clinical assessment skills (Advanced Health Assessment at Level 7 or willingness to work towards)
* Evidence of non-medical prescribing at Level 7 or willingness to work towards
* Recognised teaching and assessing qualification
* Leadership qualification
Knowledge Essential
* Demonstrates up to date knowledge of pain as a speciality
* Knowledge of the key professional issues and NMC guidelines relating to professional practice
Desirable
* Knowledge of quality, standard setting and audit
* Experience of applying research evidence to clinical practice

* Previous experience of formal/informal teaching of patients and staff
