It is recognised that on agreement at formal appraisal on an annual basis there may be a decision to concentrate on certain aspects of this job description.
Responsibilities include:
1. Implement and evaluate the delivery of high-quality patient care.
2. Undertake complex clinical responsibilities in scrub, anaesthetic or recovery areas.
3. Manage a clinical area on a daily basis and handle any out-of-hours activity in the absence of the team leader.
4. Supervise junior and inexperienced staff and assist in the assessment of trainees and student nurses.
5. Act in a professional manner providing a good role model to less experienced staff.
6. Extend clinical skills in all areas of care delivery, working without direct supervision.
7. Take responsibility for the assessment, planning and delivery of high-quality patient care in the peri-operative and post-operative phases.
8. Play a part in the forward aid team during critical incidents outside the theatre environment.
9. Provide skilled assistance to the surgeon.
10. Assist in the anaesthetic room by checking, cleaning and maintaining equipment fit for purpose.
11. Report and deal appropriately with equipment that is not fit for purpose.
12. Comply with the directorate and trust policies.
13. Communicate in a concise and clear manner when handing over the care of a patient to a healthcare colleague.
14. Provide specialist care for children and patients with special needs.
15. Identify resources and skill mix requirements for the management of clinical situations and ensure their provision.
16. Demonstrate the ability to develop coordinating skills under supervision and act as coordinator in rotation with other practitioners in the team when competent with support.
17. Ensure that Trust and Directorate policies are understood and adhered to.
18. Report regularly to Team Leaders and liaise with and provide relevant information to other members of the disciplinary team.
