We are seeking a Senior Design Engineer to take a leadership role in driving design excellence, mentoring team members, and supporting cross-functional collaboration to meet customer and industry requirements.
JDR’s Design Department supports diverse product lines in the Oil & Gas and Renewable Energy markets, delivering detailed engineering design and technical support for Umbilical/Cable systems and termination hardware.
Main responsibilities of the role:
* Line Management of design team subgroup, setting work/deadlines and performance development.
* Conduct detailed design engineering for new projects, collaborating with various departments to understand customer/project requirements.
* Develop cost-effective engineered solutions, considering materials, manufacturability, and compliance with customer and internal requirements.
* Engage with suppliers on technical and engineering matters.
* Operate CAD packages and design software, ensuring compliance with JDR procedures.
* Produce and check design calculations and reports in support of hardware designs.
* Cultivate strong relationships with customers and suppliers, maintaining open communication with colleagues.
* Ensure compliance with engineering practices and adherence to internal and external procedures, guidelines, and standards.
* Supporting on-site manufacturing and product assembly teams to ensure quality, cost and delivery objectives are achieved.
* Make key technical decisions within competence, deputising for the Lead Engineer’s in their absence and where instructed to and competent to do so.
* Reviewing client/supplier documentation.
The ideal candidate will have demonstrable experience in the engineering, design, and delivery of Oil & Gas and/or Renewable Energy equipment, showcasing a high level of technical competence, achievement, and professional conduct. They should hold a degree in an engineering subject or possess equivalent experience, complemented by strong analytical, problem-solving, and attention-to-detail skills throughout the design process. A collaborative mindset and excellent communication abilities are essential to efficiently address design challenges and build credibility with customers and stakeholders.
The candidate must be committed to meeting deadlines, adhering to sound engineering practices, and managing multiple projects simultaneously while thriving in a diverse, supportive team environment. Desirable attributes include prior people management experience, offshore engineering expertise, operator/developer or Tier 1 contractor experience, and professional recognition or progress toward it.
