IN SHORT
MK College Group have an exciting new opportunity for a creative Life Skills Tutor to join the team based at HMP Elmley. The working pattern would be all day Monday to Thursdays and shorter sessions on Fridays.
As a Life Skills Tutor, you will be actively engaging prison-based learners with creative classes and resources. Many of the learners have a diverse range of needs and learning abilities and often have had a negative experience with education. As a successful Life Skills Tutor, you will inspire them and provide learners with a positive learning experience.
This role will involve supporting our learners with key life skills, including but not limited to cooking skills, household management skills, communication skills, IT skills, disclosure information, creating and updating CVs, cleaning skills, personal hygiene, budgeting, critical thinking, and self-control. You will connect with learners in a professional manner, supporting them with their learning, enabling them to achieve success through qualifications and developing the confidence and softer skills that they can apply to employment and life both in and out of prison.
We are seeking an individual who can communicate well with learners to inspire and motivate them. The average cohort consists of 8 learners and the sessions are approximately 2.5 hours long with 8 sessions of delivery a week. Your lessons will need to be adaptable, innovative, and imaginative.
MK College will treat all applicants fairly and with respect, irrespective of their background, disability or any other individual characteristic. We particularly encourage applications from people with backgrounds which are currently under-represented within Milton Keynes College. All offers made to successful candidates are subject to satisfactory outcomes to a range of pre-employment checks including a Disclosure and Barring Service check (DBS). In addition, security clearance is required for all prison services positions up to Counter Terrorist Check (CTC) level.
