The Role: Lead Infrastructure Engineer

About The Role
As a lead infrastructure engineer, you will help set up an infrastructure team in the Digital and Data Office to support the delivery of data services.
1. Set up and manage cloud technologies for data services including implementing new solutions.
2. Manage an infrastructure team to develop and maintain a robust, scalable network environment capable of supporting product teams’ data services needs.
3. Development, maintenance, and enhancement of the security of cloud services, ensuring services are following the fundamental principles of least privilege access, encryption, isolated networks.
4. Develop, document, and maintain scripts for tasks like data manipulation, automation, and tool development.
5. Lead on the patching and configuration of systems and servers.
6. Integrate and improve on existing processing systems.
Key Requirements:
* Experience of system administration of Linux/Unix OS and the delivery of new services on Linux/Unix and open-source OS in a corporate environment.
* Experience in the development and management of Cloud-based systems and platforms, particularly in AWS, including services such as EKS, ELK, Cognito, DynamoDb, RDS, IAM, Glue, Systems Manager, API Gateway, and Lambda.
* Experience of building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines and tools (e.g. GitHub, AWS DevOps tools, etc).
* Experience in leveraging Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools, particularly Terraform, for building and managing cloud resources in line with best practices.
* Experience in containerization and deployment with Docker and Kubernetes.
* Experience of cloud security fundamentals: least privilege access, encryption, isolated networks.
* Understanding of Agile methodologies and their application in Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC).
* Drafting and maintaining procedures and documentation.
* An understanding of and experience with networking concepts and technologies (DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, routing, HTTP, CDN, LB, VPN, K8s Network Policies).
* An understanding of protective monitoring and its design, implementation, testing, and operation to provide a robust and highly available service.
* Proven problem-solving and analytical skills.
* Enthusiasm for sharing knowledge and working in a multi-disciplinary team.
* Demonstrable experience of Open source solutions and their implementation and operation.
