We deliver: When take ownership and work together to deliver excellence. Overview of role : We are looking for a motivated Research Associate to join our dynamic, collaborative group. As part of the Synthetic Genomics team, the post holder will work closely with our team of Genome Synthesis pioneers to further develop our proprietary technologies for genome synthesis, which will allow us to build designer genomes quickly and with high fidelity. The ideal candidate will have a background in biological engineering and excellent problem-solving skills, as well as a proven track record for designing, executing and documenting experiments. As an early member of the team, you would have the opportunity to make a big impact in the development of our platform and developing your scientific capabilities. Key responsibilities: Carry out protocols for rapid engineering of genomes in microorganisms. Deploy our proprietary genome synthesis platform for the construction of synthetic bacterial strains. Perform phenotypic and genotypic characterizations of the biological impact of implementing synthetic DNA designs. Effectively document, organise and communicate your research to other team members. Work in full compliance with the health and safety regulations in place. Work with our collaborative team to help grow and develop our genome synthesis pipeline. The requirements for this position are: MSc in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry or a related field (or BSc with demonstrable lab experience). Demonstrable experience in molecular cloning (DNA preparations, PCR, Sanger sequencing, etc.) and microbiology. Experience in working with leading genetic engineering technologies, including recombineering, DNA conjugation or transposon mutagenesis. Desirable qualifications, skills and experience: Familiarity with next-generation sequencing sample preparation (Illumina, Nanopore). Familiarity with genome annotations and DNA databases (NCBI, EMBL). Experience in Automation or High-throughput platforms for manipulating biolog y, such as the operation of liquid handling robots.
