Life Reimagined Constructive Bio is a VC-backed biotechnology startup based in Whittlesford, Cambridge. Our breakthrough technology harnesses the power of genome rewriting and genetic code reprogramming to make valuable products that positively impact the world. We will use our platform to turn cells into bio-renewable factories for the production of novel molecules that were previously inaccessible to natural biology, with diverse uses in industries spanning healthcare, biological research, materials, and electronics. Constructive Bio is spinout from Professor Jason Chin's laboratory at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology in Cambridge. Learn more about the Chin lab achievements here: https://www2.mrc-lmb.cam.ac.uk/ccsb/jason-chin/ We want to build a team with trust and respect for each other and create a culture of collaboration, openness, curiosity and scientific excellence. We are built on three principles: We imagine: We think big and plan our own path for success. We pioneer: We take action and grow together as one to break moulds. We deliver: When take ownership and work together to deliver excellence. Overview Of Role : We are seeking a talented and enthusiastic Research Technician or Research Associate to join our group. As part of the Synthetic Genomics team, the post holder will work closely with other scientists to advance our proprietary technologies in large scale DNA assembly and genome synthesis across organisms. The assembly of large DNA constructs is an integral component of our synthetic genomics workflows, which aim to rewrite the entire genome of living organisms for rewiring their genetic code and enabling the production of new classes of valuable biomolecules not accessible to natural systems. The post holder will be responsible for designing and delivering the assembly of large DNA constructs across projects, as well as their characterisation. The ideal candidate will have a background in molecular biology, with experience in different cloning techniques, DNA sequencing, and DNA manipulations generally. As an early member of the team, you would have the opportunity to make a big impact in the development of our platform to build new synthetic genomes and make programmable biomolecules at scale. Responsibilities: Design and deliver experiments for the assembly of long DNA constructs across projects Purify DNA constructs, and characterise their quality and integrity, including techniques such as next-generation sequencing Work closely with other team members to maintain an organised archive of experimental samples across projects Effectively document, organise and communicate your research to other team members Work in full compliance of the health and safety regulations in place Requirements: As an ideal candidate you will have: BSc or MSc in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Synthetic Biology or a related field (or equivalent experience) Demonstrable hands-on experience with a variety of DNA cloning methods, including Gibson, GoldenGate assembly and/or TAR cloning in yeast Demonstrable hands-on experience in microbiology and cell culture techniques for bacteria and/or yeast, including methods of DNA manipulation in bacteria and/or yeast Strong oral and written communication skills Good record keeping and communication skills Strong time management skills and efficient multitasking Track record in delivering high quality data We are especially keen to meet candidates with: Experience with the preparation of next-generation sequencing libraries (for e.g. Nanopore or Illumina platforms) Familiarity with the analysis and interpretation of next-generation sequencing data What’s in it for you? Why work at Constructive Bio? We are a small but rapidly growing team, with a vision to become the programmable biomolecules company and push the boundaries of what’s possible between biology and chemistry. As an early joiner, you will have a unique opportunity to help shape our trajectory and make real impact from day one.
