We are growing our Property Team with the addition of a Senior Regeneration Lawyer within the Property, Place and Environment Legal team. This role is ideal for someone with a significant level of technical knowledge and experience in Commercial Property Law and Regeneration Projects.
Whilst you will work with an existing large and diverse commercial property portfolio your role will be have a strong focus in the Council’s dynamic regeneration programme. Recent initiatives include EPIC technological park, the expansion of our investment portfolio and the Union Square redevelopment project.
The ideal candidate will have experience in dealing with freehold and Leasehold acquisitions and disposals, providing strategic, practical and clear legal advice, ensuring compliance with policies and legislation and supporting the Council’s ambitious plans to transfer and develop Torbay, working alongside fast-paced and forward-thinking client teams.
We are seeking a talented and dynamic solicitor, barrister, or CILEX professional. Preference will be given to candidates with substantive and significant PQE in connection with regeneration and land assembly in the UK.
We welcome applications from individuals with a passion for delivering excellent legal services in a fast-paced and varied environment and those from further afield to be able to work on a hybrid basis with a minimum requirement to attend the office once a month to be involved in design meetings.
While local government experience is not essential, the ideal candidate will possess:
* A strong technical background in Commercial Property Law and Regeneration Projects.
* A willingness to learn and grow professionally.
* A commitment to shaping and delivering exemplary legal services.
* Experience in strategic land assembly, land promotion/development agreements and compulsory purchase orders and where applicable financing options.
* Market knowledge and understanding of the needs and drivers of the regeneration of sites within the public sector.
You will also have opportunities to mentor and support other team members.
The Council is actively pursuing regeneration projects, creating exciting and challenging work for the ideal candidate and wider legal team.

As this post meets the requirements of the Immigration Act 2016 (part 7), the ability to converse at ease with members of the public and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential for the post.
Knowledge

* High level of knowledge of the law and procedures within the specialised area.
* General awareness of the policies, aims and objectives of the Council.
Experience & Qualifications
Essential:
* Admitted as a practising solicitor, legal executive (fellow) or barrister with at least 3 years PQE.
* Suitably trained as a legal advisor / advocate.
* Experience of working in a legal environment.
