An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our award-winning Youth Service at Nottingham Children's Hospital as a Youth Worker, supporting young people with Complications of Excess Weight (CEW).
This post is for 18.75 hours per week and fixed term until the end of March 2025, with a possibility of extending the funding for a further year.
We are seeking an enthusiastic and young person-focused professional that can complement the work of the hospital Youth Service and work alongside members of the CEW Team to support this cohort of young people through a youth work approach and goal-based outcomes.
The post holder must be able to engage with a wide range of young people and their families, offering one-to-one support, group work opportunities and sign-posting to appropriate services.
A Youth Work Degree, or equivalent, and previous experience of working with young people within a Youth Work approach is essential.

To contribute to the development of services for young people, within the Complications of Excess Weight (CEW) Services, at Nottingham University Hospitals.
To work flexibly to assist with the provision of a varied youth work programme for young people referred to the CEW Team. This will consist of one-to-one support and group work and include evenings, occasional weekends and residentials.
To support young people’s transition to adult services by engaging with, and helping to deliver, the Youth Service’s accredited Aspire Programme for young people living with CEW.
To effectively record the achievements and outcomes of the work undertaken throughout each year.
To participate as a professional member of the Youth Service, and CEW Team, and contribute to the care of the patients of the Trust, relating to their all round cultural and diversity, developmental and emotional needs.
To contribute to the development of the Youth Service through identified project aims communicating effectively with the Youth Service Manager and the Paediatric CEW Team.

To help assess the social, developmental and educational needs of individuals and groups of young people and deliver appropriate programmes and activities.
To establish relationships with key individuals and, as appropriate, parents/carers and siblings.
To work alongside the NUH Youth Forum to create opportunities for young people in CEW Services to participate in service development and actively share their views within the Trust.
To supportthe management of the transition of young CEW patients between paediatric and adults units, using tools such as The Aspire Programme.
To support young people’s development using accreditations such as The AQA Unit Award Scheme.
To encourage young people to self-advocate or advocate on their behalf; working closely with relevant services such as PALS.
To participate in multidisciplinary meetings, reviews etc. providing professional advice on young people’s issues, reporting any relevant information or safeguarding concerns as necessary, making referrals and maintaining appropriate links.
To support young people in their community, if necessary, to help re-establish their normal routines e.g. returning to school. Enable young people to access appropriate community support services such as health, social, educational or legal services. To establish contact and relationships with groups and organisations to help establish young people in their local communities.
Ensure up to date evidence based practice by close liaison with health-based youth work teams and maintaining an awareness of the national youth work agenda.
