We are seeking an enthusiastic, motivated, and flexible individual to fill the position of Ward Clerk on our busy Community Ready and Reablement Unit. We are a dedicated team who pride ourselves in providing an excellent standard of care to our patients within this community nurse led unit. We are a busy, forward-thinking department where teamwork is paramount and good customer care essential.
The successful candidate will be required to work within a busy environment, enjoy dealing with a variety of people both face to face and over the telephone, be flexible to the needs of the service, and also be able to manage competing priorities efficiently.
Candidates should have a good level of experience working in an administrative environment and must also be computer literate. Previous NHS experience and knowledge of hospital systems would be an advantage but not essential.

Main duties of the job
The successful candidate would carry out an administrative role to support the smooth running of the unit. Some of the main duties of the role would include:
* Greeting and receiving patients, carers and other visitors to the unit.
* Act as a ward receptionist and answer telephone queries/use bleep system after consultation with nurse in charge.
* Provide effective communication within the ward team and with bodies and agencies external to the unit environment.
* Attend Departmental meetings and contribute to discussions.
* Update patient allocation board to reflect above.
* Inform patient flow manager of discharges, transfers in real time.
* Commence discharge checklist on admission for every patient and ensure 5 completed copies per month are available for audit purposes.
* Ensure all patients receive a Discharge information leaflet on admission and are aware they will normally be expected to organise their own transport home.
* Ensure patients being discharged receive a friends and family card.

Person Specification
Experience
* Substantive customer services experience.
Qualifications
* Maths and English at level 1 or above (GCSE A-E or equivalent).
* Knowledge of Microsoft Office Packages.
* Knowledge of current legislation regarding data protection.
* NVQ Level 2 Administration qualification or equivalent in any subject.
* Knowledge of EMIS and/or Hospital Information System (Meditec).
Skills and Knowledge
* Ability to communicate messages and instructions accurately to colleagues, both verbally and in writing.
* Demonstrate good customer care skills and the ability to communicate effectively with the Multidisciplinary team, patients, carers and visitors.
* Basic skills of empathy and reassurance.
* Ability to maintain confidentiality.
* Ability to manage competing demands.
* Willingness to complete Competency Based Assessments and a Portfolio of evidence, and any other training related to this role.
* Ability to use own initiative and exercise judgment when dealing with requests and queries.
Physical Skills
* Ability to move objects, as per Trust Moving and Handling Policy.
