The Role

To support their expanding portfolio of innovative projects, our client is seeking a skilled Controls Engineer with expertise in integrating and programming industrial robotic systems, particularly Fanuc robots. The successful candidate will have experience in commissioning, writing TP & Karel programs, and using robotic systems to address complex industrial problems.
The variety of work will keep you engaged, with projects ranging from simple machines performing single tasks to highly customizable automation cells with multiple robots and technologies such as cameras, lasers, waterjet cutters, and chainsaws. Each component of these systems must function seamlessly together, and you will be at the forefront of making that happen.
As a Controls Engineer, you will be responsible for developing software across a diverse codebase, using a range of industrial robotic and control platforms, including Fanuc, Kuka robots, and Beckhoff and Siemens PLCs. The ideal candidate will be adept at commissioning equipment, following detailed user manuals, and troubleshooting common electrical issues.

Due to the nature of the role, the successful applicant must be a British citizen and able to obtain security clearance up to Developed Vetting (DV) level. This is a hybrid role that requires regular travel to our client's offices in Bristol and Dorchester, as well as client sites across multiple sectors, including defence.
Essential Skills and Experience:
* 3+ years of experience programming Fanuc robots at an advanced level
* STEM degree (preferably in engineering)
* Proficiency with Roboguide
* Strong verbal and written technical communication skills
* Ability to learn new technologies quickly
* Able to work autonomously and on own initiative
* Competent in diagnosing common electrical issues
* Willingness to travel as required
Desirable Skills and Experience:
* Experience commissioning and programming Siemens S7 PLCs and TIA Portal
* PLC programming in IEC 61131-3 languages (Structured Text essential)
* Experience with motion control, including VFD setup and drive tuning
* Functional Safety design, programming, and validation
* Experience with other industrial automation devices
