Smart Technology Lead (Electronic Technology Lead)
Exciting opportunity to join our R&D team has just become available for a Smart Technology/Electronic Technology Lead in Basingstoke.
You will lead the Smart Technology team within the European technology group based in Basingstoke, devise appropriate projects and support other groups in Air Products for their electronics needs. You will be running R&D projects for a wide range of applications within Air Products spanning from single cylinders, through segment applications to air separation plants, using the latest technology available.
What will you do?
1. Take a leading role in developing new technology as required by the business. This involves finding opportunities for improvement in other parts of the business and identifying solutions or supporting the relevant group in implementing a solution. This includes following the offering development process, managing the team's budget and engaging with stakeholders and suppliers.
2. Liaise with internal customers to understand their needs and ensure R&D work matches the business requirements. This requires good business judgment and understanding of the overall problem to come up with the best solution.
3. Ensure that electronics work is carried out to the necessary standards including electrical safety & EMC and contribute to best safety practices & hazard reviews.
4. Manage a small team of 4 reports including mentoring employees to ensure they develop their technical skills. This also includes some mentoring of staff from other groups specifically on electronics and firmware/software issues.
5. Instigate and maintain relationships with subcontractors/partners/suppliers and ensure the smooth running of these.
6. Ensure the personnel with the correct skillset is hired (employees and contractors) to deliver projects.
How will you do it?
1. You will be responsible for R&D and some business decisions related to the Smart Technology group, considering business requirements.
2. You will be responsible for obtaining any support services from within Air Products or externally.
3. You will be the leading expert adviser on electronics systems, software, and Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT).
4. Devising appropriate projects; these could include exploratory, advanced controls projects or projects run for other groups within Air Products.
5. Choosing and developing the appropriate technology for use on projects and offered externally to Air Products (e.g., components and communication methods).
6. Partnerships – selecting who to partner with and developing and maintaining a portfolio of enabling technologies.
What are we looking for?
1. Background in technology such as an electronics engineering degree or closely related subject is essential.
2. Broad knowledge of cutting-edge digital electronics and software.
3. Good engineering work practices, compliance to standards for CE/FCC marking.
4. Analog electronics, microprocessor hardware and software (such as STM32 & ‘C’) and must include application of established RF and wired communication protocols and hardware (such as Bluetooth, NFC, ZigBee, TCP/IP, MODBUS), surface mount technology, electronic board testing.
5. Knowledge of IIoT and its protocols.
6. Experience with long-life battery-powered devices.
7. Practical skills in constructing, operating, and testing prototype electronics including surface mount prior to going to outside printed circuit board and other suppliers.
8. Working with sensors, gas, and flow control technology.
9. Experience with working with subcontractors both for production and R&D work.
10. Ability to lead a team and more importantly to influence senior management and other stakeholders throughout the organization.
