Role and Responsibilities
About the role
We are currently recruiting for a Junior / Graduate Software Engineer to join our Simulator Engineering team who are responsible for the maintenance and upgrade of our Helicopter Simulators based at RAF Benson. In this role you will be providing technical and operations support including software configuration, control maintenance, fault finding and some support software development for our flight simulators.
This is an exciting role with a varied list of tasks – you could be developing software code, scripts and other system configurations to implement new flight systems to the simulator, integrating new functionality, or performing software investigation’s fault finding to maintain the availability of the simulators for flight training.
This role is based onsite at RAF Benson so you would be working 5 days a week at Benson. Before applying, please ensure that the daily commute works for you given the site's remote location as there aren't many public transport options available and we want to make sure it's a good fit for you.
This role will require you to work the rotating shifts as below;
1. Early Shift – Monday to Thursday 06:00 – 14:00 and Friday 06:00 – 13:00
2. Late Shift – Monday to Thursday 14:00 – 22:00 and Friday 13:00 – 20:00
Key responsibilities
1. Collaborate with senior engineers to design, develop, and maintain flight simulator software applications.
2. Executing assigned software development tasks and coding of software.
3. Performance of various testing such as debugging and robustness testing.
4. Provide accurate estimates for completion of software tasks identifying potential risks.
5. Investigate faults from simulator users.
About you
This is an entry-level role and would suit a fresh or recent graduate, with a degree or similar in Software Engineering. This role will require you to be hands-on with the Simulators, so it would suit someone with an interest in Hardware and its relationship with Software.
1. Must have good experience writing C/C++ or C# or Fortran as part of your studies.
2. Previous experience with game development or simulation software development is advantageous but not required.
3. The ability to demonstrate initiative, creativity, and resourcefulness in an agile development team.
